For those who were deeply offended by Take-Two's Hot Coffee blunder in GTA:SA, you could have a chunk of change coming your way.
As if a patch to removing the offending content wasn't enough, Take-Two, the publisher of GTA:SA, is offering a settlement of $35 if they purchased GTA:SA, were offended, and wanted to return it but could not.
Give me a break. This sets a terrible precedent for parents to continue to avoid doing just that, parenting. Killing hookers is a-okay, but animated sex with your in-game girlfriend that isn't even accessible without modifying the game? Unacceptable! Here's $35 to shut up about it.

Since the game was rated 17+, how many of them were actually offended? Unless the parents were offended when they saw their 12 year olds playing it. I dont see them paying out that much.

Sweet, I'm gonna download all kinds of software then modify it until it offends me! FREE MONEY!

But how do you prove whether someone is offended or not? Seems to me that a large number of GTA;SA owners will happily lie for $35.

Good question, I know for sure i was affended!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so i never had the game, or saw the hot coffee thing, but i want my free money if they are handing it out.

Yea really. This whole thing was such a joke. Hell even if you had been able to access the scenes without modding the game it was already rated 17+. It is not like you found this in a disney game geared to preteens.

They require Proof of Purchase for the $$$

They should require the game be returned to them also. I'm not sure if they do as I didn't see that requirement.

I mean if you were truely offended, then you have no need for the game.

Wow.

Thanks Take2.

For caving into the sensiblities of people much like Jack Thompson, without him even proposing such a settlement.

*BARF*

Its better this way. Legal fees would have cost them a fortune. This settlement will most likely cost them nothing. I doubt anyone will actually claim any of the money. Besides, who actually keeps their receipts for that long?

Doesn't matter... This means that game producers are now liable for 3rd party modifications.

What does that mean?

Companies like Bioware that have HUGE 3rd party content producers will be alot more hesitant to make such strong development tools that allow the games to be played in different manners.

Take 2 should not liable for something someone completely unrelated to the company produced. Period.

Thats like holding the gun makers responsible for injuries and deaths caused by guns.

Or alcohol producers being held responsible for the stupid shit drunkards do.

This country lives on stare decisis... and this is bad precedent.

I think that's a gross overgeneralization. The Hot Coffee mod didn't introduce new content, it simply unlocked what was already there. If it was simply a 3rd party mod, there would be no issue

Is it really that big of a difference though? It would be one thing if you could access the content in the game. You couldn't though unless you used a mod or a hack to unlock it. It isn't like it was a cheat code or something easy like that either.

How the hell am I supposed to find the receipt...

I think that is the whole point.

In a world where law makers, judges and juries actually understood technology, you would be right. Unfortunately over the last few years we've seen that they don't have a clue. So if I was running a game company this would make me think twice about allowing my games to be modded.

The society is terminally sick when portraying a murder is allowed but sex is not. These PC/Religious nutheads are limiting peoples freedom in a totally insane way.

They're sick. There's nothing more you can say. Sick.

How did bart simpson put it... Folded like superman on laundry day? Thank you, take two...

I still do not understand how mowing down pedestrians, hookers and boucy cars, shooting people in the face with blood squirting all over, was less of a problem for the 17 and older audiance than this "hot coffee" crap. Unlocked content? Yes... but it wasnt accessible in the first place. Now that take two takes responsibility for this 3rd party modificaiton, how about other games? Even The Sims has unlockable content : Clothing.
