Haha, just havin' some fun here guys. Sadly, this is all that I have to play with for now. I still wanted to make the most of it, and before I start doing what little OC'ing I can with this thing, I wanted to get stock reference scores with everything at stock clocks/timings.

Sad I know...but it's all I've got. No harm in still trying to have fun. :p

I'll be updating this thread on and off as I have time to test my CPU and video card for some higher benchable clocks, but that's it for now. :cool:

you should be able to get that Athlon (those athlons?) up to 2.0Ghz no sweat :D

I have a single Athlon XP 1800 some some POS MSI motherboard running at 2.2Ghz stock voltage with a bigass heatsink on it, I have another playmachine with an AthlonXP 1800 running at 2.0Ghz, and I have my dual AthlonMP 2000's running at 2.0Ghz each...so you definitely should be able to push that thing up a couple Mhz anyways

What the hell is that foil looking thing on your desktop?

Desktop image...I live with my gf and I let her pick it out...we share this system and I don't have the time to setup a seperate bench partition, so the tests are all being done using my 24/7 setup, no ridiculous OS tweaks.

Don't assume so much. I don't know why CPU-Z is saying it's an MP, but this is an AXP 1800+. This SiS based A7S333 mobo has no voltage options, and this is a Palamino core I'm working with here, possibly one of the worst overclocking AMD cores to date. :p We'll see what I can do with it though. Because this rig is used for nothing but benching and web browsing I'm going to be basing my CPU overclock on being able to run SuperPi 32M...as I can't let this thing sit here for 12+ hours running Prime95 as I don't have the machine to myself.

The CPU overclocking process will be slow, as I'll most likely be running SuperPi 32M once or twice a day as I have time, but I'll eventually nail down some kind of OC that helps a little.

I really don't have the extra cash to drop on anything for this rig, whether it'd be more memory, or something better then the Volcano 9 HSF I'm currently using.

The Radeon 9250's default clocks are 240/166. Because the only time this card is put to use is when I'm benching, I'm basing my card's clocks on setting ATITool to detect the most artifacts possible, and then letting it scan until there are no artifacts detected for a full hour. Sadly though, the core didn't turn out any faster then 270MHz, and the memory (even after rounding up to the nearest 5MHz increment) only settled at 170MHz.

As you can see, there's not a lot I can really do with this thing, but none-the-less...it's still benching, and I've gotta be able to...one way or another. ;)

Some stock updates...had started testing with an OC'ed video card...but a friend scored me an extra 256MB of DDR for this rig, so I thought I'd re-run everything one more time. Here's what I came up with after the added memory:

3DMark2001: 4,045 -> 4,745
3DMark03: 636 -> 703
Aquamark3: 9,072 -> 9,326
piFast: 125.38s -> 115.30s
SuperPi 1M: 1m 18.766s -> 1m 22.438s

Only reason I can think of as to why the SuperPi result is actually worse of now then it was before is because I noticed some hard drive activity while some background task was launching, and this test was run with SuperPi 1.5...whereas the previous test was with version 1.4...and the newer 1.5 XS version has been seen to be a few seconds slower for whatever reason. Oh well, might as well stay up to date, not like I'm gonna be breaking any records with this thing. ;)

As I've got time I'll start pushing the video card and CPU to see what I can get out of this budget system...I'll be aiming for 5k in 3DMark2001 and 1k in 3DMark03 to start with...how sad is that? :p

Depends, is this a notebook from 2004-ish?:p

Well, no...but look at my sig...not much for hardware. I've had this 1800+ AXP for more then a couple years, and the same can be said about this POS A7S333 mobo. It'd be nice if I had more toys to "work with" but I guess I gotta make do with what I got. :rolleyes: :)

I feel your pain... for now. I wanted to get some baseline numbers for my upgrade-in-making (6600GT, 2GB DDR2, PentiumD, etc.) My system in my sig numbers:

3DM01SE: 12,510
3DM03: 4,291
3DM05: 2,088
3DM06: 554
PCM04: 3,448
PCM05: 2,724

Still, I'd glady take those numbers over what I've got right now...this hurts...but oh well.

Here's what I've come up with so far...

I just barely cleared 5k in 3DMark2001, and a slight bump in the GFX clocks will get me over 10k in AM3, but I won't be goin' a lot farther with this thing. 1.61GHz is the most this chip will do ATM. It might be capable of more, but this mobo doesn't lock the PCI clock, and once I try even 141 or 142 FSB the PCI clock jumps ever so slightly, and I don't have enough stability to make it through Lobby High Detail in '01.

Ah well, not much left to do, but it was fun...a new mobo and I'd more than likely be able to go farther with this thing.

He still didn't answer the question. What IS it?! Please describe what is in the picture or what the picture is supposed to be.

It's a background image from valentines that my girlfriend picked out...it IS sposed to be tin foil with a red heat in the middle. Changed it since though, as you can see...got me a registered version of windowblinds. :)

Indeed. I remember the heady days of everyone racing to break 10k in 3DM01. At that time I got somewhere near 300-400. With my first OC of a P3 (500 to 740) & 256MB of RAM I got a whopping 483 (hated that Diamond Stealth III S540) - S3 graphics at their best.

cornelious i know how you feel... kinda. My only rig is still an AXP. Granted, it's a 3000+ barton, but still an AXP.

But, a palomino?? Like, the generation before Thouroughbred? nice.

Yes, the Pally was the generation of K7's that came before the Thouroughbred...and no, not really nice at all. These chips don't OC for crap, and run fairly warm compared to their TBred "versions". I have found out that my lack of OC'ing I've always had with this chip (with this A7S333 and my K7S5A mobo) in the past was due to an extremely touchy PCI clock on both mobo's...140FSB is fine, but 141 and 142 cause the PCI to jump a single MHz, and I lose benching stability. If it was worth it (some how) I'd pickup an NF7-S or something for this setup, but I doubt I'm gonna put much into it other then new LED fans for this iCute case and something other than the Tt Volcano 9 just for looks.
