Take it or leave it?

the question is do i keep my stable X6800 at 3.6 Ghz... or take a QX6700 with new memory? (tracer ballistix at 1000 mhz) im a gamer and my dad just offered them to me... take it or leave it?

keep it, the x6800 can be overclocked better

We're all GPU bound anyway so for today's games it doesn't matter, right?

I suspect the clock speed diff you'll end up with be less important than having the extra cores over the coming months/year.

You could always start folding instead of just gaming. Folding would use the cores, and you would be doing something productive with your computer

he only got 3.2 out of the quad stable. and i like the temps of my 6800 (47 degrees under full load) while the quads temps were about 72 under full load. these temps were obtained by using a thermaltake thai-chi case with the built in cooling. so there is no large difference in how they are cooled.

i think i am gonna keep my X6800 and try to get the Tracer Ballistix out of him and it will just have to hold out untill the new set of chips comes around.

And no folding for me... sorry.

Yeah leave it and just exchange the RAM. I'd say that's a more than wise trade off.

i think thats my plan. do you know if the ballistix memory is better for overclocking? im really happy with my memory right now at 1000mhz starting from 800 stock...
