Hi.

Does anyone know how to take apart a dell 2007fpw? I want to try the black tape method to fix the backlight bleed. I have seen some pics showing how to take apart a 2005fpw, but am not sure if the same method will work with a 2007.

thanks

It should work. It's basically the same panel with some "fixes." Of course, it voids the warranty, but that's what happens if you don't want to play panel lottery.

I wouldn't have the guts to try it..but good luck anyway.:D I have a 2007FPW and it has the most even backlighting of any lcd I've owned or used.....you have to stare at a blank screen in a dark room to notice a tiny bit at the top center. I guess the quality control for these things are pretty wild and varied considering some are made in China while others in Mexico or the Czech republic.

edit- mine is Mexico btw

I bought a 2005fpw on ebay that had problem. Took a chance and rang Dell for a replacement. Then used the replacement for over a year before it failed. So took a chance again and Dell sent me a 2007fpw.

I could try and send this one back, but It seems that they will only send me refurbs/returns (all I deserve really) so want to try and fix this one, but cannot see any way to take the thing apart.

If I were you I would just call Dell and tell them that you find the backlight bleed unacceptible so they'll send you another one. What if you open up the one you have and mess something up or can't put it back together properly?
