Tablet question

I asked this question a few years ago about tablets but I am wondering if there any tablets that i can stream videos from my pc and watch it on a tablet. I got a lot of movies and tv shows on my pc and want to get a tablet that I can watch those files on. Few years ago I was told back then that there wasn't anything out there that could do that.

This really a software support and not hardware support issue. I'd think most common modern tablets you can think of can support this type of feature as long as you have the software available.

Look into Plex or Kodi for example.

When did you actually last ask this? Because there have been solutions out for years.

Also I'd try asking in the smartphone section. I think most mobile OS activity and interested users on these forums congregate over there. Or in mobile computing.

Yeah, any Android tab or iPad can handle that. Just figure you'll spend $5-20 on a app / server software setup to support it -- stuff can be cobbled together for free, but in my experience the paid stuff is more reliable / simpler, and I'm getting lazier as I get older. Plex and Kodi are good as has been said. Really just a question of the screen size / battery life / what you want to spend.

Yeah, pretty much any tablet can do that. This is one area where Windows tablets are particularly strong. With a good wireless network it's just a matter of playing files right off the file system with non- DRM protected content with your media player or players of choice.

Plex will handle that easily, for a fee :)

I store media on my FreeNAS box, and serve it up with Plex. There are free solutions, but Plex makes it so easy I happily pay $5/month for the service.

This only it doesn't cost $5 per month to use. It's a one-time fee for Android ($5) or one-time fee for iOS ($5 also I think) and you can use it on as many Android devices as you have under the same Google login. Installing Plex Media Server on the PC is free. Using Plex Home Theater on any PC is free. Using Plex on Chrome (I think Firefox works, too) is free.

This is true. I primarily use Plex on my PS4, which requires a Plex Pass subscription. At least it did when I set it up earlier this year.
