t500 thinkpad screen quality ?

i'm looking at 1680x1050 screen. reviews suggest that the screen quality is OK but i think it is still a lottery type thing where you can get a samsung screen (crappy) or lg (good). this is how it was/is with dell's xps 15". just wondering if anyone has any info.

really wish they would come out with the led screens for the t500. or have a "flexview" type line of screens.
 
If the LED screen is coming for the T500 series I might recommend holding off.

I just got my LED-backlit T400 in and the screen is absolutely beautiful.

That said I didn't see any serious complaints about the T500 screen in all the research I did leading up to my purchase. It's just as good as anything out there apparently.
 
The T500 uses the same screens from the T61/P models. You will get either an LG or Samsung.
 
Looking at the detailed datasheets for lenovo the LED screen for the T500 will be only WXGA W/LED Backlight (1280x800, 129dpi, 200+ nit). Kinda a low resolution for the LED on the T500 and was expecting more.

Tonight and prior to discovering this thread I ordered a T500 with WXGA TFT / LED, Lenovo will also install an ATI 3650 video card. I ordered that setup with the expectation that reading text displayed at that resolution on a 15.4 inch screen with an LED backlight is going to be comfortable. Since I am an older person not having text displayed in a small size is a meaningful factor for me.

The T-500 currently being offered on Lenovo also can be obtained in WSXGA+ (1680×1050 16:10 ratio).

I've seen complaints on Notebookreview for both the LED WXGA (too washed out, not good looking) and CCFL WSXGA+ (not bright enough) screens for the T500. Personally, I just wish there was a WXGA+ option for the T500. It seems silly that you can get it in the smaller T400 but not in the bigger T500. Heck, if you search eBay you can still find a few sellers who have the T400 with the now-unavailable WXGA+ LED screen.

Having said that, I pulled the trigger tonight on a T500 with the WUXGA+. I'm used to having that kind of screen space on my R51's WXGA+ display.

Thanks for posting that Shorehn, I wasn't aware of the T500 WXGA/LED having those complaints. Here is the link to the complaints:

Since I am not going to be happy with seeing washed out colors along with the reported LED backlight bleed on the WEXGA/LED I sadly cancelled my T500 order with Lenovo.

How do you check whether you have the samsung or lg panel?

Old thread, but can I ask exactly which LED screen you got - there are many options for that model...
 
There IS a WXGA+ LED option for the T500, but it's one of those obscure SKUs that you have to know in order to search for. I had the entire list of Lenovo SKUs bookmarked a while back but deleted it.

I'll try and dig it up again.

I dont think so, as far as the T500 is concerned. There is no WXGA+ of any type (LED or otherwise) listed in the TABook that lays out all their specs and options for all models.

In any case, I was more curious as to what screen the person who said he liked the T400 LED screen had got. Every review that I have read that did a detailed study of the screens on the T400 posted reuslts of at best a contrast ratio of 125:1.....as opposed to the T500 WSXGA+ screen which was universally praised and tested at almost 400:1 contrast ratio.

this guy is either mistaken or lying
there is no wxga+ led screen for the lenovo t500
 
I posted when this first came around, figured I'd respond saying that the WSXGA+ screen in my W500 is just as good as my T60's was. Better than my T61p for color and brightness. Once again, it's an LG.
