Hey guys,

just got a new t42 in the mail today and I am wondering:

A) Does it come with that little security port that comes standard with most other laptops?

B) What type of stuff shoudl I update (software)?

C) Does this come with a firewall, if not any sugestions?

thanks

Well, IBM is pretty good about having everything already updated. Once you get it I would download Adaware and keep it on standby. Also Uninstall all unneeded programs in the Add/Remove section of Device Manager.

Yes, it does come with a Kensington slot.

As for a firewall Windows XP has it's own and does a pretty good job. If you use broadband then get a D-Link DI-624 or Linksys BEFSR81 router. You might also want to try AVG antivirus Free Version. Most programs like the antivirus that is already installed on your T42 will bug you every 6 months to a year to renew some kind of subscription. Baah!

You can visit Windows Update everyso often and see if there are any updates. SP2 for XP will be released here soon on Windows Update so you might want that too.

Most importantly though is not to handle the notebook roughly. It may extend the life of the notebook considerably. And don't be sticking any gum wrappers in the cardbus bays :p

Good luck.
