What kind of card do I need to play cabletv from cablebox to computer to monitor/Tv?
I would like the interface from cablebox to computer to be Component or Hdmi.

Such a thing, unfortunately, doesn't exist in the consumer realm. TV cards can only capture analog (NTSC), OTA HD (ATSC), and unencrypted QAM channels. The encrypted digital channels you get only via the cable box can only be captured at standard-definition by running an s-video or composite cable from the cable box to your tuner.

Svideo is your best option. There are no hdmi/component capture cards that i know of that have a hardware mpeg2 hd encoder, which you would need to work like the hardware mpeg2 SD cards (like a hauppauge pvr150). You will also want an ir blaster so the software can control the cable box channels.

If you really want a component input card then wait a few months for Hauppauge to come out with their new card; it'll capture up to 1080p material over component.

If these work as well as everyone hopes I'm selling someones first born for two of them. :D

Ooh, that sounds very nice! Do you have a link to more information about the card?

How long before they get sued by ABC/NBC/CBS/MPAA, do you think?
