I built a computer for my uncle. It had an asus mobo, amd athlon 2200+ processor, Ati 9200, 512mb of generic ram,and a thermaltake volcano (i forget what number) variable speed heatsink fan, 80gb maxtor hdd, raidmax 500w psu.
well anyway i built it and was working fine for me, i used if for like a month myself to make sure that it was in proper working condition (and i also didn't have a pc at the time). Worked fine for me, not a problem at all. After i gave it to him i explained all how he sould keep the fan speed and that when he is doing something tasking that he should turn it up. Well anyway his son got on the computer and was playing a game and turned the fan speed as low at it would go and he said he heard a pop and then the computer shut off. I tested all the parts in my mobo and they all worked fine, but none of my parts worked in the motherboard that was origionally in his computer. So i figured that he had fried his motherboard.
I got an epox mobo, put everything from his computer into it and it didn't work, hsf spun one time around and then nothing. So i thought that maybe one of his parts had gone bad or something in the time it took to RMA. I checked his parts in my computer again and they all wored fine. So i thought that the mobo they send me was bad. I put the parts from my computer into it and again nothing happened, just the fan spun around once.
RMA'd the mobo and got the same one and put it together with all his parts, which this time i knew were all working cuz i was too lazy to take them out of my computer till i got the mobo. Well it's all together and the same thing happened with the fan just spinning around once. I tryed my parts and teh same thing.
I find it hard to imagine that i just keep getting bad motherboards, so I figure that there has to be something else wrong. And if your first guess would be the heatsink, i already thought of that, cuz I made sure that i tested both heatsinks on each processor and mobo. I'm just really lost here. . . this computer has by far been teh most pain in the ass computer for me to build.
Anybody have any idea what is wrong with it? Could it be that they sent me another bad mobo? Cuz if they did it would really piss me off cuz i have to pay for shipping everytime I get a bad one. This would be the third time too, cuz the first Asus one that i got was DOA.
