Ok.. Here goes.
I've had a system based on a 3.0GHz Prescott CPU and an Asus P4S800 Mobo for 5 months now. I got into OCing about a month ago and decided to get a new CPU/Mobo.
So... I purchased a 3.0GHz Northwood CPU and an Asus P4P800 SE Mobo. I just put mt machine all back together today with my two new parts and it runs dandy.
Here's the problem:
I recently arranged to build a new PC for a friend. He's looking to have a performance PC but he also has a budget to watch. I decided he could use my old parts (which were brand new 5 months ago). I purchased all new parts except for CPU/Mobo.
Earlier today I put together the case, PSU, Mobo/CPU (I left them together for the transfer), RAM and Video Card. When I hit the power, the CPU fan started normally but I had no display. So I hit the power button to turn it off and nothing happened. Even holding the button for 15 seconds did nothing. I had to switch it off with the PSU switch.
I have tried it with another video card and still nothing... I've taken the board out of the case and tried it on a cardboard box. I've tried it without a video card at all.
I can't even get a POST!! Let alone a display....
I can't think of anything it could be except the Mobo or CPU. I can't imagine it's the CPU because it's been safe in it's socket for the entire ride. I also have a hard time believing it's the mobo because it was running just fine less than 24 hours ago. However, given my testing... Mobo is my best guess.
Can anyone offer some helpful thought here?
