At all.

I've just built a new box:

asus p5b deluxe
2gb ocz ddr2 800 ram
conroe 6300
x1950pro (power color)
seagate 320gb hdd sataII
some lg dvd burner
650w coolermaster extreme psu

now, this is the first pc i've built with my own money so i'm really worried atm. i power on the system, and nothing happens. no beep, nothing. i've got internal speaker plugged in and everything.

anyhelp?

if it helps, i had to 'force' the cpu and hsf in. i did this with the most caution possible, but it just would NOT go in without a fight.

i'll take it apart, see if the pins are bent on the mobo.

any help is appreciated. thank you for your time.

i've talked to a friend, and he seems to think its the psu. i'm also inclined to think so. the mobo has 2x4pin 12v eatx connectors, but the psu only has a 20+4 and 4pin, would this probably be the problem?

probably not the problem, on closer inspection of the manual, it either takes a 4pin atx 12v or EPS 8pin 12v

i've been able to use the psu in other system, but the system doesn't require the 4 pin atx connector for the mobo, so either the mobo is dead or the psu isn't giving enough power. i'm more inclined to think the mobo is dead. any other tests i should run?

the cpu was a bitch to mount on the mobo, so was the stock hsf. let's say i bent the pins on the mobo, shouldn't i still make it to the bios?
 
Do the fans twitch or do you no movement at all ?

If no movement the check ..........
1. Is the PSU switched on at back, at the wall, etc, etc.
2. Is the case power switch on the correct mobo header.

When you said force the CPU in, how much did you use.
You should just need to lift the lever and lid, then the CPU should just drop into place.
No force is needed.

But then it may take a bit of force toget the heatsink on.

everything turns on, nothing shows up on screen.

i copied the diagram in the manual to the letter, the triangle on the cpu is in the correct orientation. i wouldn't say i used a lot of force, but more than i was comfortable with using.

the problem with trying to fix that however, is that i'm having a hard time taking off hte hsf =[
 
If everything spins up then prob not PSU.
Its not a short as the fans would only spin/ twitch for a second.

Strip down to min spec.
Remove all drives, extra cards, extra conections. Anything not needed to post.
You should just have PSU, CPU & HS, MoBo, 1 stick of memory, Vid card.
Will it post or beep ?
Try taking the memory out then booting.
Do you get any beeps for bad memory ?
Try the same thing with the vidio card.
This time do you get beeps for a bad vidio card ?

If it beeps with only one part missing then the missing part is probably the bad/incompatible part.
RMA time.
If it does not beep at all then I would think towards MoBo or CPU being bad.

Thats the way to trouble shoot without a second computer to test parts in.

Reset the BIOS, your manual will tell you how to do so. Check the power cable to the GPX card, mine did the same (no POST) because it wasn't receiving enough power from the PCI-E port.

Dude what do you mean by CPU cover, the black plastic plate attached to the pin-side out of the box? If thats it then yes you are indeed an idio hehe :)
 
You Forced the cpu onto the motherboard, I cringed when i read that.

I hope you didnt bend any pins. Cpu alone shouldn't require any amount of force, it slides right in.
 
It wasn't a blunt force, so the plastic would've bent before the pins. Luckily, that's what happened.

In fact, I'm posting from the PC I just built. Contrary to what you all think, I DID RTFM, I just didn't interpret it properly!

Again, thanks for all your posts, they're really appreciated. This computer flies!
