I've read through the other threads with this same problem but haven't really figured out a solution from any of them. I've had this computer for about 18 months and it has run fine for the most part, not counting the times i was messing around and broke stuff. Last week i turned the computer off to clean up the wires a little. When I went to turn it back on, all I got was all the fans spinning, no POST at all and just a black screen. I've had this problem before though, and all I ever needed to do to fix it was reset the CMOS. Well, that didn't work this time. So then I tried taking out the battery and resetting it that way, no luck again. Once before, I had this problem, and after I removed the processor, and started it up that way, then stuck it back in, everything was fixed, but again that didn't work this time.
So I resorted to unhooking everything, and just trying it with RAM, processor, and power to the motherboard, still no change. At some point in the night I gave up, put everything back together and went to bed. When I woke up, I hit the power button, and it booted up just fine. So I didn't question it and just left it alone. A few days later, I had to turn it off again, and again, it wouldn't POST when I turned it back on. I didn't mess around with it as much this time, just let it sit for about 6 hours, and magically it worked again.
At this point I decided I should probably look into this some more, so I borrowed a friend's power supply, and tried to cold boot since that is where the problem seems to be. Just restarting the computer worked fine. The other power supply did not work either. I have also gotten another processor from a different guy, and this does not solve the problem either. So I am guessing the issue is with the motherboard. Just wondering if you guys had anything else I could try before replacing it though. I just can't figure out why it is fine after it sits for a while.
Just for reference, its a Socket 754 motherboard, Gigabyte K8NS Pro, with an Athlon 64 3200+(well, now its a 3400+) processor, and 2 GB OCZ RAM.
