Hello everybody!
First of all I would like to say that I am happy to be here and share opinions with other members of the computing and overclocking community.
After 5 years with a 775 socket PC and a Core2Quad Q6600 I decided that it is time for a major upgrade. I use my computer mostly for running heavy virtualization software (virtualbox, vmware), making Videos, slideshows etc, converting, packing-unpacking large files, and playing adventure games (which during the last two years have increased requirements). I already have ordered my i5 2500K and a low profile Radeon 2 GB DDR3 graphics card. I can spend totaly about 450 EURO (which is about 400$ or something like that). My 8GB 1333 DDR 3 (2x4 GB) value RAM of Kingston should be ok. Now what I have to choose is the motherboard.
There are 3 options for me i think , I am still unsure though. What I really want is a Z68 motherboard which can last for some time and provide Ivy Bridge support with at least USB 3.0 support. I must also say that I am not interested in heavy overclocking (at least for now) or crossfire gaming but no prob if the motherboard provides it. Basic Overclocking such us turbo boost increase or tuning up the GPU is OK for me.
I am focused in the following options:
1) MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3)
2) Intel ZD68DB
3) ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3
I know there is more out there, such as Gigabyte and Asus, but somehow I am focused on those three. I had Gigabyte till now, it was good, but I would like to try something else. But i am open to any good recommendation.
1) What I would like to ask is if the ZD68DB will be compatible with the nm22 CPUs of Ivy Bridge. I didn't find any information on that possitive or negative. All I know is that Ivy Bridge should be Z68 compatible. Maybe Intel will release a Bios Update which would do the trick, if needed?
2) I have read in many threads that the new UEFI Bios will block the Ivy Bridge compatibility. I don't know who has spread this rumor, but I don't think that it will happen. Because it doesn't make any sence, and the Manufacturers could easily make a major UEFI update, which would prevent any compatibility issues from occuring. Except that such rumors where always to hear and read in the computer, mobile phones etc. history, which didn't at the end come true.
What do you think about it? Your opinion would be valuable for me. My greetings from Greece to everybody.
