I have a digital meat thermometer and I thought I would try using it to measure the case temperature. According to my software the system temp is 30C but the meat thermometer is saying its 22C (therm is off by 2 degrees too low from real temps). . I tried placing the digital meat therm away from fans so that I wouldnt be getting false reading. Where is the temp probe on the motherboard and what would be creating the discrepancy?

I dont think a meat thermometer is designed for accuracy first of all, it just needs to be marginally accurate so you can tell if your meat is at a safe temp (or at the doneness your looking for). Aside from that where exactly are you placing the probe on the thermometer?

actually, i measure body temp (orally) and the meat thermometer came up with 96 degress (2 degrees too low)...well every MObo is different but I had the thermometer near the cpu and ram but in a position away from fans. I could not get the atmosphere temp to go over 21-22C. My question is where is the temperature probe on the motherboard that tells the software the temp?

It varies by motherboard. There is a small chip on top that has its own thermal diode and also reads CPU and chipset thermal diode outputs. A common one used to be the LM75 (has 8 pins), but there are many different ones used now.
