Does anybody know a good, freeware system stats monitoring program? I used to use Coolmon v1 from coolmon.org, but it doesnt support quad core and v2 never worked since it released. Any suggestions? I want to stay away from google desktop and such. I am running XP Pro 32-bit. thanks

I love Serious Samurize. It can show actually ANYTHING. A fairly steep learning curve (since it needs to be customized, with no default configuration) but is totally customizable.

What kind of stats you're looking to monitor would help ppl give suggestions.

I use MBM w/CoreTemp plugin to log temps. Taskmgr minimized to tray to see load at-a-glance, Multimeter to gauge Core load (Vista sidebar gadget), CPU-Z to get specs, etc.

So, what do you need monitored, and do you need logging features, etc?

I used to use Coolmon, which reported:
computer name
Processor usage (%)
processes (#)
RAM used
uptime/date/time
top process
ip address
available disk space (C,D)

i would like something very similar, dont need to bother with logging. monitoring temps would be a huge plus. coolmon would put a processor usage %age in the tray icon for load at a glance.

i tried installing mbm5, but its so old it doesnt support my mobo, evga 680i. i eventually gave up trying to install it and get samurize working, spent 3+ hours yesterday playing with it. i couldnt get the perfmon features to work, just like all the other ppl in the forums, but none of the suggested fixes worked....

3hrs working on Samurize, but gave up on MBM when your mobo wasn't listed during install...?

Just skip that 'easy setup', and go from there. Granted, it has lost a lot of usefulness since it was 'abandoned', but you can get the basics. My dashboard looks like this:

i spent 3+ hours working the other day total, mbm and samurize. what do you mean skip the "easy setup"?

When you install, and are asked ot choose your mobo, just hit 'skip this step', or whatever it is labeled. you don't have to choose your mobo. That just tags everything for you, based on known configs. MBM will still choose a lot of normal options, and work - for the most part. Again, since it stopped being actively developed, it's not up to speed on all newer configs. If you want to monitor new CPus, you'll need the CoreTemp plugin (google it). It doesn't detect my BA2 fan speeds correctly, nor all my voltages. But I have the basics, so I'm still happy with it.

i found the latest coretemp plugin for mbm and installed it and its working fine. i still cant get any results for perfmon in samurize though, same prob as listed above

Generally, if you want to keep things like temperatures, voltages and fan-speeds on your desktop, you need to add a SpeedFan perfmon meter to Samurize...

This means you need to keep Speedfan running or the values returned will be "null".

The upside? You can turn speedfan's monitoring ability on to auto-shut down your computer if a temperature exceeds a certain value.

MBM will activate a certain program based on a certain temp, too. I tied my CPU temp to a batch file which killed BOINC, so if I wasn't home and it got too hot it would shutdown the likely culprit. ;)
