um, well... if you want people to comment on the prices, you should probably post them. Personally, I just dont want to go plowing through a website looking for what you will pay for this stufff. Other than that, I would go with Corsair, not Kingston, but that is just me. I know a lot of people feel differently.

If you are spending that much, you might as well pick up a dual layer dvd burner. They are only about 75 or so. Also, I like the quality of Plextor, but I think they are over-priced. Lastly, the 74gb raptor isn't much more money, so I would get that instead of the 36. Good setup though, those are just my nit-picky comments

If you don't already have some, I would cut back on some of that stuff and make sure you have some very good quality interface devices. i.e. mouse, keyboard, lcd, speakers, etc. Although I love really fast stuff, my little input devices and such make me happier than anything else.

Go athlon 64 if possible, shit with that price tag you can get a lot more. I like the dvd burner recommendation.

Individual prices on items isnt much of a concern, My input devices are fine, I'm an avid counter-strike player so what I have is fine. I have two mice MX510, and MSie3.0, logtiech MX duo (I just used the keyboard) and a 19inch CRT. I was looking at getting dual 17 inch LCD's but I dont know where I'll get the money :p.

As for going AMD, I don't want to get s939 without PCI-e and DDR2, so I'm going to go with s478 P4's untill I save enough money for a full blown LGA775, PCIe, DDR2 gaming rig.


I don't burn many DVD's and the Lan centre I work at has a few laying around, so if I urgently need to burn a dvd, i just come down, hook it up and burn away! :p
 
The system does look OK. You can keep all the parts when you do upgrade to A64.

But, I would have to say that you need more clock speed than just 3.0ghz. I would say at least 3.2ghz, or maybe more. But thats just what I'd do ;)
 
hmmm...

(1) as i said, why 2 hdd's?
(2) you can get a rosewill 54x/36x/54x/16x combo drive for $36 or so at newegg... and rosewill is a subsidy of aopen so no probs there. i'd replace that plextor thing and the dvd-rom with the rosewill drive in a heartbeat and a double-click. it's just cheaper.
(3) that case is sorta plain. go with something cool, like the tsunami.
 
Tsunami? God that case is the biggest POS made.... Anyways, 3.0 is fine, I'll be overclocking it anyways :D. IF I get enough money for watercooling, then yeah I will, but I doubt that so I'll just get a good hsf combo for it. As for the optical drives, they are fine, leave them alone! :p. The case, I'm definately leaving the case, the only other option was to go Shuttle or a highly modified Lian-Li, but I don't want to waste money on that right now.
 
I would look at some Local comp stores instead of NCIX. You will get better prices and u can bargain.

Ahhh, sorry I didn't realise that you would be overclocking.

Starfox, the reason a person chooses two drives is many and varied. roachm has a Raptor, which is good for performance, and I'm assuming he would have that as his primary drive for OS, games etc. A second drive is there for more room, for movies, music, pr0n, etc, as well as any games that don't fit on the first drive. roachm may have another reason, but that is what I would do. It makes logical sense.
