I just bought an x1900xt and x1900 crossfire and for some reason when I play games with crossfire enabled my computer completely shuts down right in the middle of the game. I have to toggle the on/off switch on the back of the PSU just to get my computer to power up again. I actually had an x1800 crossfire setup before I bought therse two cards and never had a single problem. Any one have any idea as to what the problem may be. Thanks for your help.

System specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800
Asus A8R-MVP
OCZ Powerstream 600W
X1900xt and x1900 crossfire edition
2GB Corsair Ram

I had the same problem at first. Which drivers are you using?

Also I had noticed that I missed a small FDD 5v\12v power connecter above the PCI-e slots. Once I upgraded drivers and plugged in that plug, my problems went away.

What kind of power supply do you have?
It seems like when these things draw too much power it shuts down the system.
 
Thanks for the response. I use an OCZ powerstream 600w psu and I'm using the 6.2 catalyst drivers. I have my ASUS EZ-Plug connected, so that shouldn't be causing the issue. I actually think that my OCZ power supply isn't providing enough power, and I need to upgrade to a pc power and cooling 850 or something in that ballpark.

I wouldn't be surprised. The FDD connector I was talking about actually isn't required for the board to work, but without it I was getting constant shut downs. I am using the silverstone zeus or something to that effect 650wt and 55a on 12v rail.

These cards draw an insane amount of power. I wonder if I should put some thermo electric peltiers on them, that would certainly be fun.
 
It's a very sad day indeed when a 600 Watt PSU is considered underpowered. I just purchased a PC Power and Cooling 1 KW PSU......power really shouldn't be an issue anymore, but I'm sure my electric bill will be.
