I'm looking for a cheap way to get my new system started, I have a current system, where I plan to remove the cd drives, HD, Powersupply, and video card.

I'm looking at keeping this system under $500 for these 4 components, and be able to run doom3 and hl2 with a video card upgrade, and the right overclocking. What did you think of these components. All these parts are from http://www.canadacomputers.com/

Motherboard ASUS A7N8X-X nVidia nForce2-400 $ 89.00
Processor Athlon Mobile XP 2500+ OEM $126.00
Memory PC3200 DDR400 256MBx2 CAS2.5 (OCZ400512PDC-K) $169.00
Cooler Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu $ 48.00
Subtotal $432.00
Tax $64.80
Total $496.80

Thank You,

get a mobile barton and a NF7-S instead, if you want to overclock

Hmm, well if we are talking about the NF7-S we are up in to the $127 price range which brings these cards into comparison, which one do you think is best.

DFI NFII ULTRA INFINITY nForce2
ABIT NF7-S nVIDIA nForce2
ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe NVIDIA nForce2

The one impressive thing about the ASUS is that it comes with dual lan, one being gigabit, another about the ASUS is their quieter fans, i have heard my friends northbridge fan and its really annoying, so that might be really important to me. As long as it does not drastically effect my OC'ing.

oh sorry, i see the prices are canadian
I don't like Asus. The bios menus are confusing.

Bah, that's taste. Doesn't bother me at all. (I use an A7N8X Deluxe, revision 2.0.)

The NF7-S is a better overclocker, although the A7N8X isn't bad by any means. The active northbridge cooler, however, is one more point of failure. And annoying as hell if you have decent hearing.

No opinion here on the LANPARTY, other than it seems like a nice board.

Uhh...looks good, I guess. I'm not personally a big fan of OCZ (I prefer Corsair and Mushkin), but they seem to have gotten better lately about quality control.

Yeah what is so bad about the ASUS fan? is it because it changes sounds, it becomes more noticable?

How much difference in overclocking are we talking about? Also what makes it a better overclocker, more choice in voltages?

Also the only reason im going with OCZ is its cheapness, when i upgrade to dual 512 sticks ill probably go for cosair, which is something I plan to do right after my new video card.
