Hey i'm building a new pc soon, and I can't seem to choose between my video card, and in general I just want to know how this pc will par up to todays games and performance standard. I will be doing alot of gaming as well as basic things. My specs:

CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ w/ Zalman Fatal1ty FS-C77 Heatsink
Mobo:
Asus A8N SLI Premium
RAM:
Corsair XMS3500 TwinX 2GB Low Latency Series
Hdd:
1x 36GB Western Digital Raptorr 10k RPM (Primary, OS, Games, Apps)
2x 360GB Western Digital 7200RPM (Secondary, storage)
**PSU:
**OCZ Powerstream 600W SLI Ready (read bottom)
Soundcard:
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum
Video Card:
This is the hard part, my choices are ..
Asus Extreme 7800GTX TOP 256MB
-OR-
2x XFX GeForce 7800 GT Overclocked 256MB DDR3 (and it comes with) Ultra X-Finity 600W SLI Ready PSU

-I didn't include the DVD-RW drive because I really don't think it matters.

I can't seem to decide on the video card, I have read throughtout the forums, but i'm getting different forums, which card will outperform the other? and by how much (rough estimate)? Is it a good pc overall for todays technology?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would get the 2x7800GT's with thier included power supply, btw what do you need 750Gigs of space for anyways?
 
That's a pretty high end system. As far as the graphics solution, what kind of games are you into, and what resolutions and detail settings are you planning to run at?

Overall, a 7800 SLI soultion is going to be faster than any single 7800 soultion for most things, so I would tend to favor that.

There are lots of rumors going on about next gen products comming out next month, so if you are in a position to wait a little, I would. Of course, you can always play the waiting game, and I think that you'll a heck of nice system going with what you you have listed if you decide to build sooner rather than later.

I agree with the 2x7800GT's but,

I could fill up a 500gb drive in a weekend :p
 
Thanks for the replies guys. Well I intend to play the high end games of today, FEAR, Doom 3 basically FPSs. I'll probably run them at 1024x768 as that's what my monitor can handle atm (need to get a new one). I would like to get the most out of them, probably high settings. How would the 2 7800GTs par up in high detail on 1024x768 on a game like FEAR and/or Doom 3, BF2 etc. ?

As for the question on the HDDs hehe I have ALOT of mp3s, which take up most of my space right now (over 2 hdds) I would archive much more, but cannot do so :( so that's the reason for such mass hdd space. If I could i'd get a 1.6TB external box hehe.

Why would you want to pay for and use a heatsink that doesn't work as good as the free stock heatsink?

I read some reviews as well as forum topics that it drops temps quite a bit, so I went based on that.

Can anyone reply to my post above ^?

dual 7800gts and that system will easily let you run everything maxed (aa+af as well) with no hiccups.

its the zalman 7700 with a more powerful fan on it.....are you telling me you think that a 7700 does worse than the stock hsf?
 
Yes

Only the Zalman 9500 (or better) beats the stock X2 heatsink.

lol, one question for you mp3 people. how do you fill up a hard drive with just mp3's? how do you find so much music you like that makes you download it? but anyway, i basicaly have the same system picked out for me to build in a few monthes, only pc3200 ram and a dif. psu. and the video card selection i had picked out was the 2x 7800gt's. :)
 
Heh, well I sorta have a nack for if I hear one artist or a song, I will get everything he/she/they have ever made, so that sorta adds up in the end, but all well worth it :). I currently have around 15k songs really pushing it on the hdd, thus I need so much space.

WHOA~ I didn't see you thinking about getting a tt, but let me be the first to step in here: reconsider it, look at some li-lis, coolermasters, antecs, etc.
 
IT's SLI ready and nvidia is tight about sli things so it won't be horrible :) All i've got to say is post some pics! :D

What case would you recommend me getting with my setup?
 
Lian-Li PC6077 or PC7 Plus or PC65
Cooler Master Praetorian or Wavemaster
Antec p180
There are others that would suit you fine, and the tt may be what you want. I was merely presenting an opinion on the case, not meaning to try to turn you off of the case at all. The fans are loud, no removable mobo tray, and its a copy of the CM Wave Master, but it is cheaper, comes with 2x120mm fans and 1x92mm, premodded, like the hdd mounting with the rubber washers, fairly easy to cable manage, etc. There are pros and cons to every case out there, don't let me change your decision though, just trying to help you out in the long run because I, as others will tell you: if you're not satisfied with an integral part of your computer like the case you'll wish you had done more research on it.

lossless formats/high bit rate music takes up a lot more space than 128 kb/s mp3s.
