It's been almost two years since i updated/upgraded my rig. So i decided to build a brand new one and give the current one to my brother.

I havn't been keeping track with new hardware so before I order them on newegg, i'm seeking the community's suggestion/recommendations for my new rig.

Here are the parts im looking at and the final price came out to be $4739.76 (according the "shopping cart" on newegg).

- 1x Thermaltake Toughpower 1200Watt ($399.99)
- 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 (448x2)-bit GDDR3 PCI-Express ($1009.98)
- 1x Intel Core i7 Extreme 965 Nehalem 3.2GHz/LGA 1366 ($1019.99)
- 1x Vigor Moonsoon III LT Dual 120mm Fan CPU Cooler ($59.99)
- 1x ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard ($359.99)
- 2x Samsung 22x DVD Burner Black SATA Model ($51.98)

(contd).

- 1x HT OMEGA Claro Halo XT ($249.99)
- 1x Razer Mako 300W RMS 2.1 Speaker System ($399.99)
- 2x Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) 240PIN DDR3 SDRAM 1333/PC3 10666 ($328.99)
- 1x Vista Ulitimate 64 OEM ($179.99)
- 2x Western Digital Velocirapor 300GB 10,000 RPM ($459.98)
- 1x Coolmaster Stacker 830 Evolution Black Aluminum: ($219.99)

Please review and tell me if you see compatibility issue/harware issue and etc.
Also if you can recommend better hardware for the price, please post them on the thread.

Thank you so much.

Looks like a killer system! Personally I'd get a less expensive processor as the marginal speed increase at the very top isn't tremendous, but it all depends on how much you value those last few mhz:)

About the only thing I see that you may be able to improve on for the same cost is the hard drives. My guess is that say 4x WD640AALS drives in RAID-0 would be faster than 2 v-raps in RAID-0, especially if you short stroke them to a roughly equal amount of storage space:)

Also don't forget the usually goodies like artic silver compound, case fans and such.

have fun!

if you decide you want a BD-Rom i have one that im trying to get rid of lol. Never even opened the box. Sony BDUX10S. Its on newegg, :p

Ditch the 965 EE, I was going to get it too, but then I realized that some i7 920's can OC higher than it...

Also, with the money you save, you can go for an X-25M Intel SSD as your boot drive. You could also go for 3x GTX 285's which will be a bit more expensive but net you better performance than 2x GTX 295's.

Finally, you better have 30" monitor, if not get one or subtract a graphics card.

dont get the razer mako. its pretty crappy and not worth 400 bucks in any way.
also get an i7 920 instead of the 965.

also, id get a TRUE instead of the vigor monsoon, or go all out and watercool

k thanks for the input guys.

ya i think im going to ditch the razor sound system.

thanks.

btw, will i be able to fit 3 285s?
will i have enough room?

then i would need to forgo a sound card right?

Yea you would have to lose the soundcard at least until the release of the EVGA X58 Classified. Definitely dump the 965 EE it is a waste of money, if you get the right batch of 920 it will overclock better.

i guess thats the trade off.

so my next question is,
is it worth taking out sound card for another vid card?

as soon as this is answered, im going to order my gears from newegg.

Hows this rig turning out?

How about the rig you have running AMD chips in Intel boards?

Was it for this brother?

Don't get me wrong.. I'm not calling you a liar or anything. Just some of your threads just don't match up and are a little far fetched.
haha
why doesnt wubbie just skip the formalities and list his hardware and question instead of providing us with an exposition

an exposition of my life?. sure. here a short one.

I have two brothers who are 17 and 20. I'm 22yrs of age.
Im an equity trader for a living and work for a relatively small short-bias fund in FL. The point is that I can fund my habits. Other than gaming, poker (nolimit) is my other hobby. But above all, trading is my passion. Its what I do for a living, and it's what i love most doing in this world.

If you look at one of the post, i talked about building one for my brother. Well I happen to be very generous to my brothers. We grew up together and given that we are only few years apart, we did (still do) everything together. I'm sure those who have a brother(s) few years apart understand what I'm talking about. So from building with lego blocks, video game, golf, and poker, we like to enjoy things together. But in many ways, i guess im quite frugal because I've never really given them a new rig (if i did itwas under $1k.). I'll be giving my current rig to Brian.

alrighty, my little brother (he's 6yrs old) complained!!! of his lag!! a 6yrs old boy!! omg.. wth? i was playing w/ freaking legos at his age.. yet this kid is complaining of lags in his little starwars game... ugh..

well heres a problem.. his birthday is coming up and i dont want to spend more than $500 for his birthday present.
i want to keep him happy (he's 12yrs younger than i am, so theres this level of bonding that i cant really describe, because hes so much younger than i am, i want to do everything for him..)

right now in his room, he has a Dell with integrated graphics w/ gay dell motherboard. originally i was going to replace vid card, but i called Dell and they dont have any available upgrades for any of their line of dimension desktops - dell seriously sucks... my dad bought that for him less than a yr ago... Dell blows.

anyways, enough dell bashing...
what can i do with $500?
i already have the case and the monitor... thats about it.
whats the best possible way to build a computer w/ such low budget?
help me guys... plz. his birthday is march 6. i have a good month.. i think i should start now though.

Give it up..

(everytime i press enter, it submits the post...dunno why..).

so guys, whats wrong with having 4 gaming systems the last 2.2years? Two of the four was a gift.... what's wrong with the picture?

i actually have 6 pcs (if trading stations count as a pc) in my condo. One for gaming and others for trading.

i dont understand why I need to prove myself as "legit" to ask questions/recommendation about a $4,500 item. Its not like I came in here saying I own six ferraris.
jeez its only $4500.

w/e guys.

thank you to those who actually made recommendations.
i decided to not buy the razer speakers and im going with 3 280s.

goodnight.

i didnt want to risk the chance of him seeing the post.

also, it was before i even got the job.
that was 2 yrs ago. I ws just finishing up in college.

GO BLUE DEVILS!!!!!

Go with the EVGA classified and you will be able to fit three vid cards and a 1x pcie sound card. i7 920, TRUE 120 heatsink. I suggest taking a look at the lian-li pc-p80 case. The HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000 HDS721010KLA330 (0A35155) 1TB matches or exceeds the velociraptor in performance and capacity. For ram - Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) as many as you need. Add another EVGA GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 to make it three. How does that sound?

I hope I'm not too late here or showing too much disrespect, but I thought this needed to be said as I have been confined to a healing bed for a while and have a lot of time on my hands. To "lloose": I like you. You have spirit and sense. People that question are always winners and those that don't are always whiners.
To "wubbie412": I hope I'm not stepping on your toes too hard, but I've been around a bit and if I were related to you this would be the lesson I would give you. If you are as young as you say, this will sound like an attack, but it's more like criticism from someone who, if we all lived in projects, could be your grandfather.
Now, I have literally traveled this world and have known many extremely affluent individuals, even a few Billionaires. Some were good and some not, but none of them thought $4500 was no big deal. Now they may waste money, but not without missing it. Especially from traders. In a spiraling, socialistic economy that is suffering so painfully, and getting worse exponentially, the only folks that piss hard earnings away are those who didn't earn it and don't respect it; criminals, welfare recipients, politicians, or trust fund brats--sometimes all of the above.
Challenge to all: Go to the richest person you know and ask them for $4500 or even $450 or even $45, with no strings attached. $0.45 would be tough!
I don't know! Maybe I'm wrong, but the moral I took from "lloose's" message was the lacking integrity. People spend their time on these forums, that Kyle so generously provides, to be fun and informative for everyone. For all members to be educated, entertained and gain experience, not just one's amusement. But that means trust or it's wasting people's valuable time and could cost them needless money from bad advice.
Trust may not be important where you come from, but it should be here. All we have here are our words as we can't see one another. I've traded in trust all over, in many terrific tasks, both in training and in the trenches and it shouldn't be trampled on. Members spent much care, thought and effort in answering questions so if integrity is important to you then check the attitude at the login.
In my life, I have done, in action, what many of you do in video games( Yes, I play like a ravenous dog as well) and believe me I would have preferred to leave it in a game, but it was necessary to sovereignty and service. One thing I've learned is don't take people's generosities for granted. Don't take advantage of people's kindnesses. For me, I may be in this bed for awhile more, as I have, off and on, for the better part of a year and I really do appreciate the forums as they have taught me a lot over that time. When I was first confined, I didn't know where to turn a computer on, much less build one from scratch or what to buy. Now, with the help of strangers' advice, I have learned, not just to build my own PC, but a pretty good one at that.
For all the lessons I have learned that kept me occupied on computers and not my circumstances..... Thank you! I hope this is what "lloose" was eluding to, otherwise disregard.;)

wubbie412,

you are buying the most expensive and the latest stuff. I can add a couple things to your list.

BluRay player
2 NEC's 2490WUXI Monitors

That Razer Mako audio system doesn't look right. Get a real high end audio setup since you can afford it.

But if lloose is right, then I might also be a liar because I am building a nice computer too.

Building a PC wasn't the issue. It was misleading the forums and wasting the time of members with honorable intensions. But hey, maybe no one cares whether or not the person on the other end of the thread is stringing them along or not!
