hey, I downloaded the Call of Duty demos, and wanted to see how they would run on my new rig... well turns out, not so well. On my old computer the older Cod demo would run fine (2.0 Ghz p4, 768 MB, ge force 2, soundblaster live 5.1), on my new one, when not running in safe mode it'll freeze up in pretty random spots. Then I tried the new CoD demo too, and it does the same thing, no as random (generally happens in the same area, walking out of the church after you get the rocket launcher the 1st time) I was looking through the read me at the system specs and it says that you should have a "direct x 9.0 100% compatibe 16 bit sound card" Now I'm using onboard audio as of now, but would that make it freeze and lock up my whole system?

I don't get it, because both of them work fine if I run the demo in safe mode.

HELP please, also please don't move this to the games section... I found no help at all there.

What video card drivers are you running??? Check your temps while gaming. Anything over 60c is too high. Use speedFan to check temps in windows. Do you get a loud beeping when your system boots after restarting?

You might make sure you have installed DirectX 9.0b version and not the DirectX 9.0a version. Turns out I had a simiilar random lock up problem with a game (can't remember if it was CoD or something else awhile back because I had the DX9.0a version and the game wanted the B version.
Hope that helps

you are going to fast you are too good you need patches you are only seeing the glich beacuse another part of the system wants to ceatch up to the processer get a patch and let every thing run smothly or get the real game

I highly doubt its over heating... when I was encoding video last night at 100% CPU usage for about 45 minutes, it never got above 32C, my idle is like 25-26C. Also running prime95 everything was running quite cool for hours on end. (don't remember specifically.)

Yes I have direct X 9.0B, but I was thinking about reinstalling it just to see what happens.

Also I've never had it happen in other games. Played XIII and GTA for hours on end without a problem.

Video drivers are the newest nvidias, the 53.03. (but I burned them onto a CD, which may have screwed them up, so I'm going to download them again and see what happens.

okay, I downloaded the driver set. What should I install 1st, the drivers or directX? Thanks.

Now that you mention other games... its the only one that requires direct X 9 that I have... hmm.....(the others both required 8.1, not 9)

okay, 1st I tried installing direct X, that didn't work. Then I tried reinstalling the drivers, that doesnt work either. I'm at a loss, does anyone know what could be the problem?

Could it be a sound card issue (because I don't have one) or do you think its a graphics issue?

AHH!!!! I can't get anything direct X demo (Ie either Cod demos) to run right!

Then as soon as my system starts back up again, I load up mozilla, and it just shuts itself off. Then when I get back on and do the error report... it says that a device driver has caused the problem!!!

HELP ME, I'm going crazy my poor computer wont work.

Well, my system runs all my games fine, except the COD demo. Suggestion: turn off AGP fast writes (if that's an option for Nvidia cards).

okay, I'm at school right now. But when I get home I'll look into that.

If that was the case, would my other system not have that capability or something?

Still kind of confuses me that it will unr in afe mode but not in normal.

BTW, does CoD do the same thing on your system? Or will it not run for other reasons?

Call of Duty will lock up, and the sound will just loop. I can't even press Control + Alt + Del, I have to hold the power button and hard shut down.

I asked the people in the Games forum, they suggested I turn off AGP fast writes (and VPU recover since I use an Ati card). That worked for me.

If it's anywhere, it should be in nVidia's control panel (where you set stuff like 3D settings and such).

now, I coud've sworm that I saw that setting somewhere. but I can't find it. Let me check in the BIOS real quick and I'll get back to ya.

EDIT: I can't find it anywhere... do any nvidia people with the 53.03 drivers know if there is a setting like the one he's talking about?
