System locks up during XP install

Hey all. I'm installing XP on a new disk on a new system. The BIOS reads all the drives properly, and when I insert the CD for install it either freezes altogether after the screen reads "scanning your computer for hardware compatability) or it will freeze at the initial blue screen, sometimes while saying "loading system files" and sometimes not.

Any clue what's going on? System specs:

DFI SLI-DR Expert
Opteron 180
2GB OCZ DDR500 memory
RaptorX
7900GTX

The processor, memory and video card were working perfectly in my previous rig. Only the mobo and HD are new.

Thoughts? TIA.

Well, it seems to be memory related. I pulled one of the DIMMS and install is proceeding, though not with the optical drives I set up. Very odd.
