I have a odd issue with my system crashing. It will with out warning just shut off. like someone held the power button down.(i did disco the power button) I've gone through it and checked voltages, Temps and reseated everything. there are no huge cat fur balls or dirt inside as I blow it out every few weeks. Right after it crashes I can turn it right back on. when it first started the night before I hibernated it. then when I turned it on, it died about 20 min later. about 1 week later it just ran for a day and a half then died. I have tried running with 1 stick of ram, "4 times" and with only onboard video. I have put new compound on the cpu. I have NOT tried a new psu yet. It WILL crash sitting in bios too. i removed and updated all drivers. Any ideas on what to try would be helpful. I'm at work right now so if you need any more info I can get it tonight.

specs of the pc are in my sig

mobo dieing?

these kinds of problems are hard to get a hit on without isloating componets. you should try that.

try only useing 1 stick of ram or the other stick stuff like that.... and alt video card.

i'd try a new PSU first. do you have a surge protector or ups?

i have tried isolating. i tried each stick of ram by its self. i tried using the onboard video without the 2 pci gpus. and yes i do have a ups. 1000w. tried with out it. when the pc shuts off all of the lights on the mobo stay lit.

This has happened to two of my computers in the past and every time it turned out being the PSU. Not saying in your case this is true, but definitely worth to check.

i have my psu running in another pc right now. will check back when I find out what it does

i'd suggest trying another psu in the problematic rig, not the current psu in another rig. :p

I tried another in it and same problem. I had it running for about 5 min then it died. if I leave the PC off for awhile. (2day) It will run longer before crashing. I am putting my chips on the MOBO, I contacted XFX and they said RMA it and they will send me a new one. Guess I will find out in a week or so if im all good. Thank god I have a ps3 otherwise I would actually have to talk to my wife.

I didn't see your answer on whether you use a UPS or not, if you are, maybe that's the culprit. I had my PC plugged into UPS and for a while I had no idea why it would randomly shut down on me over night, over time, shut downs became more and more frequent, and I realized that it's due to the UPS gone bad. Not exactly sure why, but it seems that the battery drains during normal usage, and when it depletes it shut off power for whatever's connect to the jacks. I plug the PC into the non-batteried jacks on the UPS, and no hiccups anymore.

sorry for the bump on this but I got it fixed. I sent my mobo back to XFX for RMA. in the down time I got a new case and had put my psu in it and paper clipped it just to check out all the fans and junk. After about 10 minuets it shut off. So here I am thinking to myself that I Rma'ed my perfectly good motherboard and XFX was going to put shame on me. well I bought a new PSU because mine was definitely bad and waited to hear from XFX. two days later. Status of (insert long RMA number here): Faulty. So my guess it my psu killed my mobo. so now I'm back up and running and sent my old Psu out to thermaltake for a new free one.

Happy endings are never cheap.
