Out of nowhere I am getting system crashes. I've been stable since I've been running this setup until today. Nothing in the system has changed. System in sig, gpu at stock.

I can p95 the CPU for days without problems. If I load up the gpu the system will hard lock in 1-3 minutes. Temps are under 60c for the core and 70c-75c for the vrms. I don't think it is a head issue. I tried under-clocking the core and memory but that didn't help.I tried going to 14.7 (newest beta?) and that didn't help.

Any ideas would be great.

One thing I did notice is that my 12v in gpuz is only like 11.6.
 
Sounds power supply to me .. old trick was to unhook everything not needed to run like fans/extra hard drives and run it on 1 stick of ram just to see if the voltage get's better and stops hard locking.. 290 pulls a lot of power .
 
The error log says it is a driver e issue. It anyone else has a 290/x I would love to know what it says for the for 12v in gpuz. Mine says 11.75 and drops to 11.63 under load. Hardware monitor reports12.10 with no real dips or spikes. I can get psu to test it on Monday.

I've uninstalled all amd driver, run driver sweeper in safe mode, reinstalled and that didn't help.

The screen goes black with dots. I am starting to think it is a gpu ram problem.

Ive also had several BSODs happening to me (290 trix), happens randomly (sometimes in games, sometimes during flash playing and sometimes just when a few PDF files are open, but never when the PC is idle)

my 12V in gpuz reports 11.88 steady even under load, ill take a screencap of the event viewer next time it happens
 
my pc was BSOD/Freezing when one of my two 290's began to crap out. Not too long after, the card was completely dead. It was not a heat issue either.
 
The 12V reading from the motherboard sensor is practically meaningless. Motherboard voltage sensors are generally highly inaccurate and aren't updated very often by monitoring programs anyhow. They also don't measure ripple which is more likely to be the cause, if it were a PSU problem.

Even if the sensor was correct you are still within the ATX PSU specs of +/- 5% on +12V (above 11.4V and below 12.6V).

Does the freezing happen when you watch video or just in games?

Just games, and out of nowhere. I got the card on launch day and has been working fine since. Yesterday it started crashing every 1-3 minutes with no system changes (drivers/hardware). I'll barrow a psu to test with on Monday and test a gtx 670 tonight to if that works.

A side note. The gpu has only been overclocked for about 2 hours. It has run at stock most of its life.

I just gamed 2+ hours on a my gtx 670 with no problems. rma in the morning.
 
No crashes since I put in the 670. Msi approved the rma and has sent my replacement. I guess they don't really care about that void if removed sticker on the card. Replacement will be here on Tuesday.
 
does the 670 use as many amps as the 290? I recently bought a new PSU that was fine with lowerend cards but failed with a 290 or 290x and it is/was a corsair HX850 so not a cheap crappy brand PSU

interested to see what happens when you get your RMAed card

That sticker is really only for countries other than the US.

670 uses significantly less watts than the 290. You're talking about ~220-250 watts (290) vs 130-150 watts (670).
 
I had a similar issue with freezing/BSOD with 290s, mine are sapphire and I received a BIOS from them which resolved the issue a few weeks ago. But since you have already submitted for a RMA moot point now. Let us know if the issue gets resolved! :)
 
Had a 680 recently do the same thing that you're seeing with the R9, EVGA replaced mine under warranty. Glad to see MSI took care of you on yours.
 
My rma came in today and this is what the back of the gpu looks like



I have never seen this on any gpu. This can't be good right??
 
I really need some advice on this. Should I bitch and make them send me a new one?
 
So msi says that TIM on the back of the gpu is normal. So I'm going to clean it off and put the g10 on and see if it works.

I am very disappointed with their qa in the rma department.
