System build problems

i'm building a pc for my parents with old parts:
Asus A7N266-VM
onboard video
2*256mb 2100 ddr ram
xp 1700+
40gb WD
lite on dvd and cdrw drives
300w sparkle psu

i got everything up and running smoothly, except for the onboard sound. instead of pulling my hair out, i decided to install a sound card (sb live!), but when i went to boot it up after putting it in the pci slot, i dont get any video. the fans start and everything seems normal except there's nothing on the screen. i tried flashing CMOS and i took out the sound card and tried rebooting, but the same thing happens, no video. i'm out of ideas...any help?

oh and i know that the proc and ram still work, i tested them in my system.

this happened to my computer...

gotta ask... :p did you install the drivers?

If you did, go and "update drivers" under device manager.

That fixed my problem.

Good luck! Troubleshooting can be a real bitch! :D

thanks boys, but i fixed this the day i made that post. i was a tard and forgot that the psu has to be plugged in to clear cmos, so when i did it correctly it fixed my problem.

i still dont have sound though, but that is a driver / compatability issue.
