Hello all,

Even though this is offtopic since I'm not overclocking anything just yet I'd thought maybe you guys can help me stablize my system. Here are my specs:

Case: Lian Li PC-A05B (idle - 30c)
CPU: Q6600 G0 (idle - 35c, load - 50c)
Sink: Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3R F11 bios
RAM: G.SKILL 2x 2GB DDR 1000 5-5-5-15
GPU: EVGA 9800GTX 675 MHz (idle - 60c, load - 70c)
Power: Corsair 520HX
Fans: CPU - 1x S-FLEX SFF21F, Case - 3x SY1225SL12M (all plugged into mobo)
DVD: Samsung SH-S203B
Sound: Auzen Prelude 7.1
HD: 1x Seagate 7200.11 500GB
OS: Win XP SP2

I'm experiencing random automatic hard reboots depending on the load. No BSODs or any event logs that can indicate any error. I have "Automatically Restart" on system failures turned off. Temps seem find to me.

Memtest86+, newsgroups downloading, bittorrent, etc. run with no errors and reboots. But 4 instances of Prime 95 will reboot it automatically within an hour. COD4 multiplayer or even Test Drive Unlimited will reboot randomly between 30 minutes and a few hours. And just for fun, running 4x Prime95 and a FFA COD4 game with HDTV playing on 2nd monitor will only last around 20 minutes.

So let me ask you guys where I should start tweaking. Most performance related settings in the bios are at default. Unfortunately I don't have a multimeter but everything I've read says that 520watts should be adequate for a typical build like this one.

Thanks...

Sounds like a power related issue if it isn't heat related, it doesn't just come down to your total wattage of your PSU you realise? Different video cards have different power requirements and what i mean is the amount of Amps on your 12V rail, from memory my 8800GTS 512 needs 26A on the 12V rail so when I upgraded recently I made sure my 650W PSU had that much available (Mine has 32A) I believe your card will need even more Amps, my sugestion to you, go to your local store, tell them what video card you have and get them to recommend a good quality PSU, install it and see if it adresses your issue.

If that doesn't work then next thing I would look at is your memory, has memtest shown any issues? Even if it doesn't it doesn't mean that your motherboard completely supports your Ram you have installed, ran into that issue not long ago myself! Some boards are a little picky on what sort of Memory you have installed, i.e what brand and type. For this reason I normally stick to the main brands, i.e Corsair, Kingston etc because you are more certain that your memory would have been tested with your board before release.

Good luck! Trying the memory first is an easier job than PSU btw ;)

go get a better psu at a retail store, see if it fixes the prob. if it doesnt, return it. if it does, return it and get a better deal from newegg or something. just rule out psu. 520w isnt a hell of a lot of power for a quad and a 9800. (not radeon :p) also, are u getting reboots at idle or at load?

All comes down to the Amps not just the overall wattage, I had to upgrade my PSU when I did my GPU/CPU/Motherbard/RAM upgrade a couple of weeks ago!

Sounds like a PSU issue to me. 520W is cutting it really close, assuming the PSU is even working. I've had PSUs before that would make the PC restart just like that (w/o a blue screen) and I have no idea how the problem started but buying a new one fixed it. It could be other things too, so do your research, but it sounds power related to me.

Glad you found issue before you spent money on a new PSU. A Corsair 520HX is plenty to power your setup, if anyone doubts that just browse the PSU forum...
