Sys doesn't OC without PCI-E: Automatic

Hi, I have a question regarding overclocking a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600. It seems that any combination of settings I use in the BIOS won't work unless I set the PCI-E card to "Auto".:rolleyes:

I have a card from eVGA that is already overclocked and I really don't want it to run even higher. I also don't need additional video performance. My question is, can I exclude the video card from being overclocked? When I use the standard setting recommended by the BIOS (100MHz) or other values on the PCI-E bus, nothing works. It needs that "Auto".

I am just getting started with these OC limits, explanations and tips are appreciated :D

The PCI-e setting in BIOS does NOT overclock the vid card itself, it refers to the frequency that the PCI-e bus itself is running.
 
One of my colleague had a GA-965G-DS3 board and he tried OC-ing it - those mobos with integrated graphics don't have locked PCI frequencies, you can achieve a much lower FSB because of that and you have a high chance for data corruption on SATA HDD's.
Sorry, but that board it's not OC friendly :(
 
I don't have a (BIG) problem with it so far.. latest BIOS and OCs fine. I see that I was wrong about the PCI-E bc I thought it clocks the card itself.... so I can go above 100MHz without causing the card to overheat? I had the 2.4ghz on 3.06ghz the whole night yesterday (PCI-E: Auto) but this morning it couldn't start and set it back to default. I'll try some further adjustment.

I wouldn't go above 100mhz pcie EVER. Like someone said earlier, you get sata HD corruption and could quite easily screw up your video card.
 
ahh ok... the problem is that everytime I manually select a PCI-e mhz-rate, the restart fails... I have to leave it on Auto in order to overclock the cpu... i guess my board DOES suck :-/
 
What about voltages? Have you tried leaving the PC at stock, setting PCI-E to 100mhz, and upping the voltages slightly?
 
then only your CPU voltage, perhaps your Chipset/MCH (Memory Controller Hub) voltage ... but not much.
