I think a lot of people are looking into buying a HDTV for the xbox 360 and other things.......and not all of us have $4,000 to spend on the best quality plasma/lcd ect.....so this is for all of us who are on a very cheap budget....I duno if its just me but these Syntax Olevia HD LCD tv's are cheap, good size, and are getting great reviews. On tigerdirect.com two of the monitors have like 30 reviews either 4 or 5 stars.....so its looking like a great option and i think im gonna have to grab one.They are selling like crazy and i heard that 7% of the HDTV LCD market is this one company. If anyone here on hardforum owns one, please comment either to agree that these monitors are great or maybe they arent so great in which please tell me now.....

I was wondering myself. Had thought about picking a small 20" off ebay. Think it was under $400 shipped too, which is cheap. Site reviews looks good for their whole line nearly, and I think most of them are using 12ms panels or better.
 
Well I would buy from anywhere but tigerdirect but thats just me. I hate that company. These tvs have been recieved well by a lot of people. Have a compusa in your area? They sell them and you can look at them for yourself. Then shop around and see if you can find it cheaper. I think Fry's sells them too but they are not in my area. I was thinking about the 26/27 inch one like 7 months ago(can't remeber what sise it was) and I was pretty impressed with it for the price. It was weird though as I was trying to get the vga in to work with my notebook to see how it would run as a monitor and it did xga fine but when I tried to run it at native(1280x768) the thing would not run full screen. Yet when I set it to 1280x1024(the monitor would take this as an input even though its res is not that high) it run full screen fine. I didn't have the time to fully mess with it though. I ended up buying a 23 inch apple lcd as it was for my desktop and although the games would be great on that screen I needed more res for normal work.

Looking at specs, they've upgraded the panels they use since that review. Unless a better deal comes out by new year, I'll be buying 2 30inch panels. Target and Radio Shack sell Sytnax panels as well. May want to look at them vs Tiger...at least you have a local store to take it back to if something craps out ;)

...Sucks too, Target had a $200 rebate on the 30 last month, I didn't have the $$$ for it. :mad:
 
I have a 27" Syntax Olevia and love it. Bought it Frys for $699. The only negative, other than the remote which isn't that big of a deal, is it has some issues with blacks. Personally it doesn't bug me, but some videophiles would have a problem.

It looks great connected via CRT or DVI to a computer, 1280X720 is a very comfortable resolution for this size of screen. Oh and HL2 kicks ass on it, no ghosting as far as I can tell.

Also, I couldn't find it documented anywhere, but mine can run up to 1280X1024 just fine. Yeah it is stretched, but it can do it. Overall I am highly satisfied for the price I payed and recomend it for others.
 
I pay the extra 4 bucks a month to have a Comcast HD tuner. Its connected via the Composite (YPbPr) cables and looks awesome, HDTV is great too bad there aren't very many chanels. I never hooked it up to HDTV through the DVI connection cause it is plugged into my computer. There is sort of the catch, it only has 2 highdef connections: DVI and YPbPr . So if you think you will be able to have a HD box, a Xbox 360, and a computer, all hooked up through HD connections, think again.

Wait most of there tvs have a vga in also. Just run the pc through that. Or does the one you have not have that option?
 
ya im pretty sure most of them have VGA and you could just get one of those component adapter things so u can plug like 6 things into it

On your receipt does it qualify for 30 day refund if you don't like it?? I'm itchin to buy this ... Always on the frys ad in sac bee... MWF Sat Sun most of the time its in the ads... They even have the 30 now on the add for 800+ somethin.
 
radio shack and target will take back the monitor in the store after you buy it from their online site, thats all i know

If you buy it in compusa instore you have a 21 day return option. The best thing to do is go into a store that sells them and take a look. Use a notebook(borrow a friends if needbe) and get them to let you hook it up and play with it using a pc to see how you like the quatilty.
 
my local one does. they had a 42" plasma on a managers special a couple weeks ago for 999!
 
Yea they should have all of them on display. I just talked with a manager and they let me hook up my notebook to the 26/27inch(still can't remember the size but i think 27). I was real interested but ended up going with the more practical(like this is) 23 inch apple screen. I just didn't want to lower my desktop res that much. Debating on buying one now as a replacment for my aging crt tv.
