Picked one up a 2 weeks ago ($999 After rebate) to use as a bedroom HDTV set and ocassional PC monitor. I was suprised to say the least at how good it looks as a PC monitor. I have been using the Dell 2000fp for the past 2 years and am a resolution freak............I thought 1280 x 768 on this 30" would look horrible but I was wrong. I also picked up the Sony 23" 1920x1200 rez monitor 2 nights ago at Circuit City for $989 as a open box!! but man this 23" looks tiny compared to the 30" Decision Decisions!!! LOL

Looks nice, I would have jumped on it when it was $999 AR, but I can't stand silver bezels, and I wasn't sure the speakers were detachable (looks like they are tho). Those two things piss me off about lcd tvs, because almost every single one has them (and yet plasma doesnt). :mad:
 
I saw those on sale. Looks awesome, but I rather have something that can handle 1920x1200 and is 16ms than something that can only do 1280x768. Keep in mind you are only at most 24 inches away from your monitor..... Give your eyes some loving and not trying to blind it. It is like me playing ps2 right infront of my 42" Plasma.....
 
I'm 36" away from my monitor and it wasn't bad at all. I also thought I'd love 1920 x 1200 but to tell you the truth it's only 3 inches wider than my dell 20" and it's the same height. Also the pixel pitch on the 20" to the 23" is almost exactly the same so the pixels are the same size. So for $1k you only gaining 3" width or 320 pixels........ is it worth it???

could you post a pic of it on the desktop or on Hard or on MS word or something? I wanna see how it looks in everyday applications, I've played doom3 on it at microcenter and it was amazing.

I want this monitor so bad. All the reviews have been pretty good and the price is very nice. I want it mostly for a tv though but will be used as a 3rd LCD.

Could you write a little review on it and take some more pics? That would be so awesome.
 
Like I posted before, this is the first TV/Monitor that comes close. No clue about the company itself, but having seen a few of these they really look good.

I've seen a coupel different sources. One said 16ms and the other said 25ms.

Hopefully it's 16ms.
 
Actually what I have read state 16ms and the website lists 12ms.....anyway I started Halflife 2 with the monitor and completed the game with the monitor with zero ghosting.....In fact I know have a 23" Sony thats rated at 40ms and I see no ghosting on the Sony either. A while back using a Samsung 191t I saw tons of ghosting and that panel was rated at 25ms......My Dell 2000fp has Zero ghosting and is a 25ms panel also..........I recently had the NEC 1880sx which is rated at 33ms that also had ZERO ghosting. The MFG MS rating doesn't hold water im my book.

Mac: How does it look with sources other than digital? I mean, did you try it with a standard cable (even digital cable) signal, s-video or composite inputs?

I'm curious because I've been looking at this TV to go over my fireplace, but every review I read says it looks pretty bad with a "normal" signal. That would be a deal breaker for me since 80% of the TV viewing in my house is still "normal" cable channels.

I can tollerate a bit of quality loss, I suppose. I'll just have to get by knowing that eventually everything will be in HD :)

I think your going to find that any good monitor/TV with better picture quality is going to suck on standard cable.

In fact it’s one of the things I make sure people know about before they buy one. It’s the old “garbage in garbage out” syndrome. Over the air will be better then cable.

Face it, the cable companies and Satellite companies are not going to spend any more money on the older technology, it just isn’t cost effective for them to do so.

If you go shopping it’s becoming harder and harder to find a standard TV anymore. HD can now be had for very little more then last years better analog sets. Those are not the best, but people are converting over at a very fast rate anyway.

Just like BillR stated "Garbage in Garbage out" Standard cable depending on your signal goes from god aweful to OK picture quality...If you run satelite then you should be fine. Running HDTV this set looks fantastic.

I've been considering this monitor or it's little brother (The 27"), $999 is an awesome deal, if I can find it at that price after christmas @ MicroCenter I might have to pick one up.

I also wouldn't mind seeing some pictures of the desktop / Browser / Word open on this bad boy if you still have it. I would be buying it as primarily a monitor and its secondary function will be as a TV, have to decide If I can give up my 2001fp and 1600x1200 or not.

I realize that the picture will depend on the signal, but some sets handle it more gracefully than others. I've seen some that are tollerable and others that were downright nasty. I'm just wondering where this particular set falls.
 
take some in game pics of it with HL2 man. that display looks really good for the price!

how does the cable input really look? good? bad? okay? horrible?

I want one for mostly tv but also for my computer every once in a while to watch movies. Would it be worth it to just go for a 30" widescreen HD tv instead?
 
I can't really comment about the analog cable quality as the cable signal in my house is defintely below average and doesn't look very good. If you had Satelite or digital cable the picture would be good.

Man these displays have amazing specs for their price, less the resolution. I've never been much of a res. whore so I think I'm gonna look into getting a 27" one for my bedroom after seeing how nice yours is.

Does HL2 support its native res.?
 
Well I bit and picked up the 30" Version for $1280, not as good a price as I had hoped for but no waiting for shipping :)

So far all Ive used it for is as a PC Monitor, surfing the web, email, and I played a little half-life 2 earlier, all of the above were impressive. No complaints so far. Hoping to get a OTA HDTV box in a few weeks for TV, I might hook it up to my regular (Not digital) cabel and see how it looks in the mean time, not sure.

I'll see about taking some pics later if anyone want's to see more, let me know what you want pictures of and I'll see how well I can get them to turn out.

Yea take pictures. Cable input, computer input (vga vs dvi)

My dad got me the 27". It's made by Westinghouse though. I'm going to pick it up from Best Buy today. I read somewhere that this one doesnt have DVI but the 30" version does. That sucks. The 30" is like $300-400 more. I have 30 days to try it out and take it back if it doesnt work out.

What does everybody think?
 
Alright here is a quick picture I took tonight, going to be pretty busy for the next couple days but I'll try and get some good pictures up early next week, note that is not the monitors native / full resolution just a test pic I shot, its a little stretched but looks pretty good still:

I am still amazed at the quality of this as a PC monitor via DVI, Ive been using a 2001fp @ 1600x1200 for the past 6-8 months and wasnt sure if I could handle this size screen at 1280x768 but I love it.

As for the westinghouse I haven't seen them personally just read some reviews on them, as for returning it not sure of BB has a restocking fee on LCD TV's or not might be a good thing to check before you open it up. I'll see about getting some good quality pics up comparing it as a PC Monitor via DVI and VGA and I am probably going to pickup some coax cable tomorrow so I can at least have regular analog cable on it.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

I've been debating on getting a large lcd or a projector for games (pc & console)/ movies.. this my sway my decision towards an lcd. Since the larger lcds (23+) are native 1920x1440 or what not I'm never going to be able to run a new game at that res anyways so the lower 1280x768 fits my needs. Do they make any that are 1280x1024 or x960 though ? Also can you get some more pics with it in gaming action ? thanks.

Best Buy has a Westinghouse 27" for $1000 and 30" for $1500.

I like mine. I decided to keep it. Great price.
