I'm having problems trying to switch the sync polarity of one of my screens...
I have an HP ZR30W (30" 2560*1600 screen), and recently bought two Hazro HZ30Wi (same size and res) to work with my pair of GTX480s in an nvidia surround setup.
Surround would not configure, giving me a message "all screens must support the same resolution, refresh rate and sync polarity". After plenty of checking I discovered that the HP has a sync polarity of (+)Horizontal / (-)Vertical, whereas the Hazros have (+)H / (+)V. I am assuming that this is the reason I can't get surround to work...
First I tried switching the polarity in powerstrip, but powerstrip does not seem to work with my screens at all (can't force any changes in refresh rates, timings or anything else). So, I took the more hardcore route: I opened the EDID file with moninfo, saved as a .dat file, opened it with phoenix EDID designer, and changed the sync polarity of the ZR30W to be (+)H/(+)V, just like the two Hazros. Everything else was the same as the default... When I saved this as a new driver (.inf file) and tried to apply it in Windows 7 64, the screen went blank. It was not detected in Windows, and wouldn't even work during POST. I needed to completely power off the screen for 2 mins before it would work again.
So my question is this... What the hell is sync polarity anyway? I've tried searching for more info on it, but all I find are other people having trouble with Nvidia surround - no hard info on what it is or how it operates. Is it just something that is set in hardware, and can't ever be changed in software?
Any information would be much appreciated, as would any other suggestions for things to try! I'm loathe to try switching over the Hazro polarity until I understand it better. I brought the HP "back from the dead", but who knows how the Hazros will react... These screens are a bit too expensive to become paper weights!
