I'm getting a new SSD in the mail tomorrow and i was wondering if i can just Ghost my current harddrive over to the SSD without having problems.

Thanks in advance!

ghosting is the same. Providing u have enough space that is.

i will, going from a 300gb raptor that i only used about 80gb to a 160gb ssd

Are you running Windows XP? If so, you'll have the unaligned sector problem.

But I don't think you'll have any issues with ghosting the drive if you're currently running Vista or 7.

I, too, am upgrading to an SSD (C300 128GB) to be used as my system drive/ most used app drive. I currently have win7 64 installed on a WD 500gig 7200rpm drive. I've used about 80gigs of that drive and have thought about duping the contents of that drive onto the new ssd, but usually with a new build I just do a clean install. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'd suggest a new, fresh installation, but if you don't have the time, imaging the drive over works fine with 7 and Vista, as luser mentioned.

mine was a win7 install. It works although there are some alignment issues with some drives. Sometimes it's easier to fresh install.

The majority of people recommend a clean install to ensure the alignment is set properly. If it isn't you're not going to see anywhere near the performance you should.

Some cloning software claims to take care of this, but I've seen people run into issues even using those programs, so your mileage may vary.

I always vote clean install to an SSD just to be safe.
