I'm wondering what i need to config to have port 3 & 4 working from 1 & 2. I did the cable switch on the mobo, disabled 1 & 2 , enabled nvidia and 3 & 4. When windows tries to load, it would reboot before the status bar starts working.

Mobo is A8N32-SLI Deluxe

1 & 2 might be the Silicon Images controller and 3 & 4 the nVidia controller. Therefore you cannot switch to another controller unless you do a fresh XP install (I could be wrong on this).

all four ports are on the nvidia controller, there's another port for silicon image.

I can swap my SATA's around on a whim, and it affects nothing, save for a message that states that boot devices have changed and it asks me to check them in BIOS. Do that. Make sure you have the new setting configured to boot properly in BIOS.
