Currently my system is as follows:

Motherboard: Gigabyte 965P-DS3 rev 3.3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 6600
Heatsink:Thermalright HR-01
RAM: Corsair Twin 2x 2048-6400C4
Hard Drives: Two Seagate 7200.10 500 GB
DVD Drives: Samsung 18x DVD RW and Pioneer 18x DVD RW
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS
Sound Card: X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-620HX
Case: Antec Performance One 180B

For the past ten months I've had no issues with it but yesterday when I tried starting up it would continually reset after 5 seconds (after the fans connected to the power supply go on but just as the fan connected to the motherboard is about to turn on).

I'm first going to see if it'll work with different RAM and then power supply and if the problem persists then cleaning the cpu and reapplying the thermal paste. If none of these work I'm guessing that it has something to do with the motherboard.

Since I bought it a few months before I built the system the motherboard is already past warranty. At this point would it be a good idea to buy the same motherboard type or something similar (like an ASUS P5B), which seem to be hard to find at this point, or should I go for a newer motherboard? Also, will there be any issues with the operating system or any devices because of the change?

Thank you for your help!

I would also like to know the answer too. I have a motherboard that I will be replacing with a different brand motherboard. From what I know, some people say that the drivers might make it malfunction when trying to load the OS, and some people use the OS disk to try to REPAIR Windows... but, can you prevent this problem by removing the drivers of the motherboard before you switch, then switch the motherboards, and install the new drivers?

Or are there other non-driver related problems that may occur?

you will almost certainly need a reformat if you replace the motherboard. I dont know what the general concensus around here on gigabyte boards is, but in my own personal experience they really suck.

If you were gonna buy a new m/b i would suggest a p35 (or greater) chipset over the 965. Overclocking for quads for me was much easier and higher speeds were attainable.

Have you tried clearing the cmos and running everything stock rather than OC ?
