Switching from a GF3 Ti200 to a 9600XT on a 1700+

it will be a slight bottleneck but not by much as long as you got more than 256mb ram.

next upgrade would definately be a 2500xp.
 
Sojuuk is right about the bottle neck.

I ran a 1700+ with my 9600 pro and got about 8500-9000 3Dmark 2001.

Then I ran 2500+ stock and got about 11500.

Now I run my 2500+ at 2.401@11x218 and i get about 12000.

So the 1700+ will be a pretty big bottleneck.

FYI: This was all at stock speed of the 9600 Pro, before I overclocked it. Now with the specs in my sig, I get about 13400.
 
1700+ Palamino or Tbred?
why buy new when you can overclock paid for parts?
 
What sort of performance increase can I expect? Thanks in advance.

You will get a big performance boost with that card. That is a good upgrade. You won't be disappointed.

Thats what I was gonna say. If you have a t-bred b 1700+... man you can really make it fly. One of AMD's best O/Cing chips.
 
On my XP1500+ I went from a ti200 to a 9600NP, and it was a great upgrade. Raw framerates in a few games (Q3A framerates only went up about 10-15%) seemed to be capped by my proc, but I could pump the IQ settings without any effect on the framerates.

I think you'll be more than satisfied.
