Hey, now that you know I'm not a spammer, can I switch my Hard|Forum account's associated email address to my hotmail address? Currently I'm using my wife's email address, but I'd rather use my own.

Is this possible or against the rules?

If this is possible, who should I contact?

My email address is

d r i l l 3
at
hot
mail
dot
com

without spaces and with the obvious extension. I have no idea what spambots review the forums, so I had to conceal the address somewhat.

As far as I know, there are no free email domains allowed, no (or very very few) exceptions. I asked about the same thing a while back since I never ever use my ISP email.

You can try sending a pm to Kyle and asking but the general rule is that you have to have a non-free email account to be a memeber on the forums. I don't know of anyone he has let get by this. Hell I'm not sure if you can even do it because I would think the ban on domains would be system wide for vBulletin(could be wrong on this).

The forum software has a list of email domains that aren't permitted, so the only people with hotmail address would have had to have them before hotmail was added to the list of banned domains. Most ISP based email services have a forwarding function though, so you could just set it to auto-forward to your hotmail if you like.

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I'm stuck with my wife's email address. I'll try giving the admin a note, but as you said, it probably won't change anything. This isn't a real big deal, I was just curious.

Do you have a university email? Most of those let you forward to another email.

Or you could switch to gmail and it will scoop up the email from your Hotmail and the ISP account with POP3.

I use an old AOL email for [H].

I think gMail's been banned as well.

It is.

But my point was that gmail would take in the mail from Hotmail and his ISP account so he could read it all in the same place.

(speaking of which... there should be [H]ardmail...wait that doesn't sound right)

As mentioned, the banned addies are filtered by the forum software. They are banned for a reason.

No, we don't make exceptions just because you think you're special.

Is there any reason for the ban on free accounts, besides spammers (good enough reason)? I was just wondering if there was a technical reason that I'm just not seeing.

Spammers. You'd get 300 new accounts a day registering just to spam with Viagra, Cialis, and Man-Pump-XXXL.

Spammers specifically and also returning bans. The online Email clients that are now in the filter were placed there one at a time as they became a problem with multiple registrations. The Admins check and pass each and every registration before they are allowed to register and even now we deny about 20-30% of the registrations as spammers. There is a good reason for the things we do here, it just doesn't look that way sometimes to the casual observer.

I figured that's what it was. I was just wondering if there were some other reason (software or server based). when there is something- anything- I don't know, I question/research until I do. I'd be a real bastard on Jeopardy. In fact, I think I'll go sign up to test next time they're

I'll see if I can forward my wife's email to my inbox. Hers is an old university account. I can understand the spam problem as I have been a member of other forums where it was.
