Hello there, thinking of making the switch.

My cpu will be a 2500k, what MB is a good starting point. Maybe CFX or SLI down the road. usb 3.0 and SATA III is a must....
Seen that Z68/P67 are the way to go for OCing.

Thanks for the HELP!

Thinking of <$150

EDIT: I've gone with this ASUS P8Z68-V PRO....... Thanks for the help guys.

depends on how much you want to spend.. the only Z68 board i have experience with is the gigabyte Z68XP-UD3. for the 2 weeks i used it, it was a damn good board. bios was easy to use and it had no problems overclocking a 2600k to 5Ghz. the board layout was good as well.

what 1156 has to do here? maybe I didn't get something...

for the price asking price there are not too many boards available new, none from the "great" overclockers range, you could try to check "for sale section" for that price.

I like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130622, but it's not a "great" overclocker
same for this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271

they all pretty much overclock the same.. even the high end boards are just as hit or miss as the low end boards. i've seen cheap 100 dollar 1155 boards out overclock 300+ dollar boards and vice versa. the biggest issue is getting a processor that actually can overclock worth a damn.

He linked the Maximus IV Extreme-Z, which is an 1155 board that costs $330.

16x/16x doesn't matter. The CPU still only has 16 lanes worth of bandwidth to communicate with all the video cards.

I would go with the MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 if you can afford it. Good board with plenty of features, and a good overclocker. However, as others have noted, your overclock is more CPU dependent than it is motherboard dependent. I would say about 90% CPU, 10% motherboard.

The gd65 is a great board. Also the Asus p8z68v and p8z68v-pro Gen 3 boards.

You should get the ASUS Sabertooth (the one im using) it also has a full cover shroud if you have a window and want a clean look

Got it from geeks today, it was a refurb but it came with a 3.5" USB 3.0 external hub, now off to Fry's to get a CELERON G530 as a hold over.
