Swiftech water-cooled Core 2 Duo

I finished my first water-cooled rig over the weekend. I used the E6400 Core 2 Duo on a Asus P5B Motherboard with the Swiftech H20 Premium 120 water cooling kit. I find my idle temps to be about 36C as reported by bios, and load to be 49C with double instances of Prime. These numbers do not sound reasonable for water cooling, I would of expected much lower idle temps and the delta to be lower. Anyone have a comparable setup? BTW the chip is not over-clocked yet. I am just burning everything in and checking for leaks at this point (probably nothing can be done if it leaks seeing how I am at work right now :) )

Although it's kind of high I wouldn't say its unreasonable... Even though your only cooling the cpu that kit has a single 120mm rad and the mcp350 pump. I suspect you would see better temps by using a 2x120mm rad and/or a higher power pump like the laing d5 or ddc ultra.

Yeah, I checked out some reviews on the kit. I came to the conclusion that a single 120mm rad would be more than enough if I only have one thing on the circuit... I guess I was wrong. Hmmm.... I guess it does not pay to use a kit... I was thinking about customizing my water cooling setup, however I did not have time to pick out all the parts and do the research.... Anyone else with any temps on a stock Core 2 Duo with water cooling?

Try tightening CPU Block further - Conroe are notorious for uneven IHS that results in iffy contact. Also, if ears can withstand, move to a higher spec'd fan on the radiator.

Yeah, its a delta already. Not sure of the CFM. I will have to do some research. Furthermore I need a good way to vent the case. I do not have any fans pulling air out besides the power supply. Furthermore I hooked the fan up to the motherboard header so I can control the speed. My concern is with a higher speed fan, more amperage, which can burn out the fan header. Any ideas on a fan recommendation?

That is a good point, i've heard a lot about the IHS not being as flat as it should be on the Conroe.

For comparison I asked my friend what he was getting on his 6400 @ stock speeds with the stock HSF. 45c Idle and 58-60c load....

Conroe temp reporting is very iffy aswell.

I use a Ninja passive to cool my E6400 at 2.8Ghz. It's not too passive though, because it has 2 tricools at medium speed within an inch of it.

I get up to 75' When running dual prime, according to CoreTemp. Or 49' according to speedfan. However, the ninja isn't really even getting slightly warm to the touch. Not sure if this is a combination of temp reporting being weird / bad IHS contact / or bad heatsink contact.

I'm going to try a remount with AS5 instead of crappy Scythe thermal goop and see if it helps at all

I added a spaced on the water block to make it tigher. It is the apogee block, it uses springs with castle nuts to retain it. I basically increased the tension with the addition of a spacer.

Actually, it's more like d5 < mcp350 < mcp355 (aka ddc "ultra")

I just installed the swiftech kit with a dual 120mm rad on my e6400 (stock speed) on a p5b deluxe, and am also getting higher temps than i had hoped. I idle arount 40c, and under load saw as high as 49c. Thats about a 10 degree drop from the temps i was getting on air, but i was still expecting better.

Wow I thought mine was bad... Oh well the water blocked decided to leak and ruin most of the components. I have a thread already started detailing this problem. I am about to post some pictures of the problem as I take apart the water cooling block.
