PureOverclock has the Swiftech Polaris 120 heatpipe HSF on the test bench today for a little review action. According to the article, the Polaris 120 performs very well and is reasonably priced as well. Here's a quote from the review:

Swiftech, a world class leader in water cooling products has re-entered the air cooling market. It has been close to 10 years since Swiftech has manufactured air cooling products and believe it or not, some of their old product is still being used in OEM builds. Today we will take a peek at the Swiftech Polaris 120 and see how it performs.

Their article seems more like an advertisement. Everything was rosey until testing. Then it turns out this HSF performs dismally; it was beat by everything but the intel HSF, and by a large margin. But hey, everything is still rosey because it's got a cool curved design and has the name swiftech on it.

Would love to see it reviewed by a competent group.

Wait what... Did you read the article? They list the price at $60 and it comes in dead last in their testing (aside from the stock cooler). They even had the fan on backwards in one of the photos!

Not to mention...

from the article said:
]The recommended installation direction of this heatsink does not allow all memory slots to be populated on the motherboard.

Ok so now we have an expensive heat sink, that performs badly, includes a mounting system that looks like a bitch to use, blocks RAM slots, and is getting reviewed by some people who can't even put a fan on correctly... This is shaping up to be a terrible product. There are many more cheaper, easier to mount and better performing heat sinks on the market and somehow this gets the "Good Hardware" Pure Overclock seal of approval? What a complete joke.

I gave up on Swiftech when they moved offshore, and didn't lower their prices accordingly.
