Swiftech MCWRamcool VGA Memory Waterblock

Swiftech has posted a new item on their site, the MCWRamcool waterblock for nVidia 79xx series memory cooling, at about $55.
The concept seems rather odd to me, check it out.

I am getting a 7900GTO these days and I planned to cool it with DD's Koosah cover-all block. It would be nice to use Swiftech's solution as all my other WC gear is Swiftech and I know its high quality, but in this case, DDs solution just seems so much cleaner. Especially in SLI, which I might end up going.

Any thoughts?
 
If it weren't for the... Y? connectors, that Swiftech block would be awesome, but it DOES have the Y's which makes it *not so awesome*. Still pretty cool, not 55$ cool.

What a stupid product. With the amount of heat GDDR3 chips put out anything more than ramsinks is pointless. If you insist on ram cooling/full coverage, I would recommend the EK block because it actually cools something besides the GPU that will benefit from it... the voltage regulators.

That is interesting, I thought the Koosah did cover the voltage regulators.
Are there any resellers of the EK block in the US?

Will this work on Nvidia videocards that has 512mb of memory? meaning that the card has memory chips on both sides.

Hi There. I'll respond to this, and some other remarks in this thread.
In case you wondered, I am Swiftech's CEO (gabe@swiftech.com).

I agree that VGA mem does not generate much heat, and I was hesitant to release an H20 solution for this. Then we started doing O/C tests with voltage mods, comparing ramsinks to w/c. Even the best ramsink in passive mode -like our MC14 ;) does not come close to the temps/scores you can get with w/c on the memory. Back then (dec 05), we were working on a deal with a large OEM, and my "gift" to them on the occasion of a big meeting was a 3DMark06 world record with their 7800GT and the first Ramcool prototypes. To this day, we are still #3 in single adpater mode (you can go check it out), the 2 guys on top using Core 2's. Note if you go check, that we ended blowing away even the 1306 frequency and reached 1390 if I recall, but never published it.

But the bottom line is how much does it really buy you? With a good CPU, I say the opportunity to make first page in your category on futuremark, for whatever its worth.. Memory will greatly up your scores, in 2006. But you have to vmod the card, otherwise, its kind of a waste.

Regarding the F fittings, they are the equation solver in the following problem: separate GPU cooling from VGA cooling, while retaining the ability to run on any 1/2", 3/8" or 1/4" system on the market, AND keep a clean tube routing in the system, AND offer w/c memory upgrade to the thousands of existing MCW60 owners. That's a lot constraints as you can imagine. In any case, I have been working with them for a while now in the lab, and personnaly I find them to work pretty darn good; but hey that's only my opinion. let's see what reviewers and opinion makers say in upcoming tests.

I'll let you all know shortly if there's a problem with flow or increased GPU temps when using the "F" connectors........... :eek: I like the seperate ram cooler idea myself............... :D
 
I kinda like the idea, but I think that the F connectors are way ugly when compared to my NV-68. It's a pity, too, cause I might have opted for this and coupled it with my old Maze4 instead of buying my NV-68, but those F connectors are a deal breaker.

Pet peeve time: F connectors are a screw on coax connector, goshdarnit! Don't be stealing names! :p
