Something about this pump's speed control just screams "shitty build quality" as though I'm dealing with a $20 cheap Chinese desk fan.

Contrary to the picture (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/swmc12vdcpu.html), my pump has a sticker with some numbers on it, not embossed numbers.

Anyway, I first tried turning the knob with a screwdriver before I even installed the pump, and it gave some force before it clicked and then just kept spinning rather loosely. Depending on how much you turn it and in which direction, you can feel some resistance, but there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to it. It's not like there's a distinct click from one number to another - the thing just goes in circles. I have no idea what speed setting it's at.

With the unit on (in a running loop), I tried to listen to it and feel it vibrate while trying to adjust the speed, but there's really no way for me to tell from sound or vibration what's going on. Maybe the speed is just constant and isn't even changing?

Not that I have the inclination or energy to undo my whole setup just to send this shit back...it works and it's quiet, at least.

Looks like this, right?

This might sound stupid, but I nearly did the same thing when I got my MCP-655, until I realized that the little notch on the knob actually points away from what it's actually set to, and there's a barely-visible-at-first arrow on the knob actually pointing to one of the numbers. (In the picture, it's set to 5).

Also, the knob on my pump doesn't "click". It turns smoothly and requires very little force to turn (Easily done with a fingernail) and it doesn't let you turn it above 5 or below 1. Hoping you didn't break it! :(

Well, it turned very easily above 5 and below 1, so if I "broke" it, it was a ridiculously shitty construction to begin with. Possibly, I looked at the wrong side of the notch instead of the barely legible arrow (another shitty design flaw) and so I turned it the "wrong" way too much, looking at the "wrong" notch. Still, it's not as though I applied massive force and there's no way it should have broken so easily. I mean, again, I have cheap floorstanding fans where no matter how hard you turn the dial, it's not going to go past max or below off unless you're a brute retard.

Oh well, what can I say, the thing works perfectly fine, whatever the hell setting it is at, and it's very quiet. Just kind of irks me to have broken the speed control in all likelihood. Can you easily tell from noise or vibration when it's at speed 1 versus 3 versus 5, etc?

I can def tell when mine is set at 5. Noise goes up and the fluid smashes into my drive bay res after completing the loop causing a bunch of turbulence and froth.

At 1 and 2 i don't see anything in the res. At 3 i can see some movement but it doesn't cause any bubbles like 5 does.

I suspect 5 is a bit over kill for 1 rad and 1 block lol.

Unfortunately like the other poster said mine doesn't even spin in a full circle before stopping. I don't know about you guys but mine has an arrow on the dial pointing to what number you are on. I guess if it is still working that's what counts but could have saved a few $ and got the version with no speed control lol.
