Im considering upgrading my current HSF to one of these, but I cant decide, any comments?

Swiftech heatsink for AMD processors (no fan) (socket mount), Model "MCX462-V"

-OR-

Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu Pure Copper CPU Cooler for AMD XP Socket 462,754 and Intel Socket 478.

I hear great things from both, so I cant really decide, but I think I'm leaning toward the Zalman.

And which do you tink would be easier to install... I dont like taking apart my pc alot... expecially the mobo.

I've been plenty happy w/ my swiftech and it just clamps on.

I don't think the zalman does, it may require mounting holes.

you can disassemble it but it is probably a pain.

I found out you do need mounting holes for that Zalman and it will be a pain in the arse compared to the swiftech installation. I would go w/ the swiftech

I have the mounting holes on my mobo, so thats not a problem.

Do you think i will need to take my motherboard out to put on the Swiftech? Because thats the only thing from holding me back from ordering right now/.

No, you don't have to take the mobo out for the swiftech, but you do have to take it out for the zalman.

Why do so many people think that you have to bolt the Zalman to the mobo? The A version uses the clip!

I'd say go with the Zalman, it's dead quiet and the performance difference is negligible.

Swiftech it is! What size fan goes on top? I have a 80mm from my current HSF i can put it on...

Hmm ok, Id like to order from newegg for the fan...

i was thinking this Vantec Tornado, but it seems a little loud 56.4 db

Ekk!
ekk is right. if you decide on that fan, (which i suggest you dont, unless your computer is in another room) pick up a pair of these...

i put up with the fan for over a year, what a relief when i switched to "normal" fan.

for pure performance for its size, youd be hard pressed to find something better.

Thats a 90mm fan though, do you think it will fit?

(i just noticed its not in stock, AND it costs $4 for shipping on a $5.99 part.... i think not)

Get the 92mm Tornado, and use a rheobus. I have one on my Swiftech, and have it running at approx 7v, and it still puts out a lot of air, and is a lot more quiet. And if you need the extra cooling, just turn it up a notch.

its 92mm and yes itll fit.

the tornado is 9.99 and same shipping if you didnt notice.

Wel... you got me there... I may do what saturnine2 suggested though

I always laugh when I see that crazy looking Swiftech HS, does it really work well? Like Compareable to Thermalright's stuff or no?

It always reminds me of those pin boxes where you can leave and imprint of your hand.. I doubt you guys know what I'm talking about

the swiftech 462-v isnt one of the best hs available right now. it does better under lower cfms then thermalrights heatsinks.

i know the pin boxes your talking about, thats funny the swiftech does look pretty similar. :p

Take the extra time to install the Zalman, your ears will thank you. Not only that, but the Zalman can o/c with the best of 'um.

I love my Zalmans. I have 3 of them in various systems in the house. I even have one installed in my PVR.

The only two downsides I can think of about the Zalman:
1) you have to do a bit more work to get the hsf installed, but it's worth it in the end. If I can do it you can too.
2) it's not a great hsf for lan parties (which I don't do anyway), and the reason it makes for a crummy solution to a lan party box is the sheer weight of the hsf. I would be afraid during transit, the hsf would shift, or worse, yank plum off the socket. It's a heavy beast.

Anyway, hope it all works out for ya.

I just don't know what to get, I'm so freakin sick and tired of this loud as hell Tt Volcano 9, argh. I'm pondering the Swifttech or the Thermalright...

I WISH I could use a zalman, oh so much

That reminds me, have you considered the Thermalright heat sinks (947U, etc.)? That Enermax 92mm fan would fit nicely on it. Or you could try this Panaflo 92mm fan:

Hey guys, just out of curiousity, I already ordered the Panaflo and I know the Enermax has a better CFM/noise ratio, but why haven't people suggested this Enermax 92mm fan before now? Or have I just been missing those threads?

yeah a concern i have right now is lan parties... my speeze hsf is pretty heavy and dont want to rip off the socket when moving my pc

Ill buy a nice 92mm fan then. Any suggestions on that?

I just read a review on the swifty and it actually performs better with an 80 mm fan than it does with the 92. most of the air from a 92 is wasted and the smaller hole on the 80 actually holds in the airflow putting more air where it is needed, the middle of the heatsink.

The Aluminum-Copper version is better for situations like this. Cheaper too.

yea, I never thought of it since I have never owned the aluminum/copper version..... i might have to try one out. :)

Ok, well this will help me out alot. I have a nice 80mm fan right now.

Thanks guys

i have the AlCu version of the zalman and i love it. Not too much trouble mounting it (you are saying you dont have 15 min out of your "busy" schedule)

it is great even when overclocked, and quiet, my friend with the delta envies me.

the all copper version is 773g vs 650 for the swiftech
the AlCu is 445g vs 650 for the swiftech.

the performance difference is neglegable and the price is less for the AlCu.

Any others who wonder should go with the AlCu why?
1. cheaper than both swiftech and the all copper
2. similar performace
3. not too hard to mount (although incompatable with some motherboards)
4. quiet and no need for aditional fan

draw your own conclusions

Speaking of deadspots in fans, what about the fans that are driven from the outside? (I can't remember the name, TED or something like that, the motor is on the frame of the fan, and there is a magnetic ring on the ends of the fan blades that drives the fan so that the middle is just a hub for the blades)

Why not cut out the tornado and mod it to the ALCu heatsink..........
It would be hard to mount a Tornado to the Zalman due to the amount of torque on that fan. Its hard to even hold a 92mm when that 12v hits it! That would be one kickass cooling solution though...

The Swiftech's clip design is the best thing since sliced bread.

Go for the Swifty.
