I'd be getting this if I didn't just buy the chameleon diamondback:
Diamondback Plasma LE

The diamondback is a VERY nice mouse, and the new color is just awesome!

Once optical mice got reasonably priced, I didn't really see a reason for the existance of ball mice anymore...now that wireless mice are reasonably priced, I don't really see the reason why I should have to fight with a mouse cord anymore...

Definate eye candy though.

seven buttons = left and right click, wheel, 2 buttons on left near thumb area, and 2 buttons on right near palm area.

it has a 7 foot cord, and it's still the ultralight version of the cord used in the other diamondback mice, which has never been a hassle for me at all. diff storkes for diff folks though :p

It is an optical mouse...razer doesn't sell ball mice anymore. As far as wireless goes, they stuck with USB 2.0 because wireless limits speed and resolution.
Here's a good explanation of wireless and USB speeds in a Diamondback reveiw.

Looks nice although not very ergonomic.
I've been using Razer's mice since the Boomslang 1000 days, so I may just be used to weird mice - the only complaint I have is in the placement of the rocker switches. They are a little too far back for the back part of the rocker to be used without adjusting your grip. Otherwise, I could use it all day!

Looks like a very good mouse, but too expensive for my tastes just for a mouse.

^^ believe me, it's worth it...it feels and responds better than any Logitech or Microsoft mouse i've ever owned!

I don't think it looks that great either...I like the lights on it, but the design is very....bluughh

hit up razer's site and read some reviews of the Diamondback. There are plenty of people who were skeptical about the design and ended up liking it.

I had a Diamondback, but I'm back with my IE4.0 due to the poor driver support from Razer. There are known problems with pixel skipping, unremovable mouse acceleration and side button usage (the side buttons are also awkwardly placed unfortunately). Although I did like the mouse, and although there are registry fixes for many of the aforementioned issues, as a competitive gamer who frequently goes to non-BYOC LANs I couldn't have a product where I'd have to be downloading registry tweaks everywhere I went. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice mouse, but if I were you I would look towards the MX518 which also has 1600 dpi sensing but should have fewer driver issues since Razer has such a track record of poor drivers whereas Logitech has, well, at least slightly less of a track record of poor drivers.

I'm un-decided about this mouse or the MX1000. Does that mx1000 have a faster RF connection than the mx700? If it doesn't, then I don't think it's for me.

If you're an avid gamer, definitely go with the wired mouse. I've used both the MX700 and the MX1000 and while I thought they were okay while I was using them, once I switched back to wired the responsiveness and the weight brought back a level to my play I didn't even realize I had lost by going wireless.

exactly my thinking. I'll stick with the razer mouse.

In my opinion, the only reason why the MX1000 wouldn't be good for gaming is because of it's weight. Although it's slightly lighter than the MX700 it could still be too heavy for someone. Other than that, the mouse is almost perfect. I notice no lag whatsoever and it's just as responsive as my wired MX500. I will never go back to corded mice again

whats with all this pro wireless stuff. by definition and pure physics, a signal can move faster through a cable than it can be sent through air. Ive personally used a few wireless mice, but they all have slight lag time.

i hate lag

the microsoft optical wireless mouse works sweet as hell....not too heavy, just right in fact, and it NEVER messes up in any way. I've have compared it to my few other mouses, been using it for a few weeks, and it's one of the best mouses I've ever used.

I think it doesn't matter whether a signal is faster through a cable than wireless. What matters is whether it's fast enough. Appearently, older mice had lag issues but the MX1000 seems just like a wired mouse to me. I compared it side by side with the MX500 and I couldn't notice any difference in responsiveness as much as I tried.

Same here....only I'm using the microsoft wireless optical mouse...absolutely no difference from my wired logitech and wired microsoft mouses...well, actually, my wired microsoft optical mouse by starck sucked big time...looked really cool with the blue LED strip down the middle...but the cursor jumped around all the time, and it wouldn't work on my raw desk surface like my other mice.

you guys are gonna laugh when i say this but honestly so far the most responsive and plain kickass gaming mouse that ive ever used (and ive used alot) is the wireless mouse that came with my $40 MicroSuck wireless desktop. This mouse is absolutely great its light, easy to move, responsive, and very ergonomic

I play CS:S competitively and I need the LOWEST possible amount of lag. It's all about confidence in my shots whether I win or lose and even the slightest amount of lag is gonna throw me off. i really, really, really wish that logitech made a wired version of the MX1000, then I'd be sure of it's responsivness. I'm tempted to buy one from best buy, see if i like it, then return and get it off newegg for much cheaper, but that wouldn't be right and I'd probably end up keeping it at an $80 price.

sorry but once you go wireless you never go back

This statement does not apply to myself. I hate wireless mice, they are too bulky and heavy for me. Could be my tendonitis speaking out (some may say "wuss" at the heavy part) but uhhh thats me .... i dont like wireless...the batterys make it too heavy etc...im tired.

I have a wireless mouse/keyboard on my HTPC setup... No other alternative, really.
(Oh, and by the way... If anyone reads on the back of the MS Wireless Multimedia Mouse/KB combo that they have a 6' range... That is a lie - The software application kindly will remind you that it has a 3' range  )

But for my workstation? It doesn't need to go any further than the mousepad, so... I really don't see the point of making it wireless. :p

yea the range is pretty limited but that not what i got mine for i just love not needing wires especially for gaming because cords used to bother the hell out of me...a light mouse with a cord feels heavier than a heavy mouse with no cord IMO

Yup, and mine gets all of about 2' - took me a bit when I first set the thing up to realize what was wrong. The batteries don't last no six months neither.

these Razor mice don't seem to be very ergonomic...
Yeah, before I went with the MX1000 I tried one and it was pretty crap to be honest as far as ergonomics go. I guess they are good for hardcore gamers but for work I would never use one.

I just switched out to some of those last time too, hopefully they'll do better.

Logitech ever fixes that repositioning lag, I'll be all over the laser mouse though.

for the price i paid on my combo i AM VERY impressed...it doesnt get much better than this for $40

The reposition lag has been fixed in newer MX1000's. Well, kind of. The problem with earlier Laser mice was that as soon as you lifted the mouse off the table it went into some kind of stand-by mode. So when you put the mouse down it took some time to "turn on" again. This is what my MX1000 does when I leave it for half an hour or so. When I first touch the mouse I notice it takes a couple of miliseconds to come back from the stand by mode and then everything works normally. Newer MX1000s (I think their serial number starts with DZLxxxxxx) don't immediately go into stand-by mode when you lift the mouse. Instead, they continue working. The problem is that when you lift your mouse just a little above the surface it still continues to track. Optical mice do this too but with Laser it's a couple of milimeters higher. So, when repositioning the mouse you just have to lift it a bit higher than you would lift an optical mouse and there will be no lag at all. It's best to test the mouse in the store to see whether it's a newer version or not.

The Razer Diamondback is always on...you never have to worry about it going to sleep :D

Hehe yeah, but I wouldn't trade my MX1000 for any Razer mouse. They are just too uncomfortable to me.
