anyone ever heard of doing this in a harddrive....i fried mine the other night and need to get files....like taking the platters from the broke drive and putting them in a working drive
 
swapping the platters is a no-no. data recovery services may be your only option, and they're $$$$.

what does 'i friend mine the other night' mean?

 
well im not gunna spend 2000 so i might as well try this as a last resort...im gunna first try switching logic boards
 
If you remove the platters from a multi-platter drive you're done. Once you lose that alignment there's no hope what-so-ever.

If you 'fried' the drive you may get away with swapping the PCB - but you need an exact match. You may have also damaged the HDA ("heads") which would also require an exact match and some training to swap.

This is why data recovery costs money. Not something you can just do in your shed.
