Swapping an External drive ...

I have one of these LiteOn EZ-DUB cd/dvd/dual-layer burners:

What I would like to know is if the drives can be swapped out with something else? I'm planning on buying a LG GGW-H20LI drive that can read HD-DVD & Blu-Ray:

So you are trying to take a drive out of a external case and put in a new one?

If so I don't think it would work. :(
 
Yup. That's exactly what I want to do. You think maybe the case is proprietory to the drive?
