Swans Tweeters

A friend of mine was helping me move my speakers tonight - and out of curiosity, he decided to press down on the tweeters. I almost wanted to kill him on the spot, but certain things can/cannot be replaced.

I put the tweeters into the light and saw there was actually a membrane over the actual tweeter. It seems as if he had only pushed this membrane down (and the tweeter beneath it still maintained its' round-ness).

My question is, is this any cause for concern? I almost snapped watching the membrane caved in, but it popped itself back out. The actual tweeter beneath it seems fine. Just want to make sure my Swans aren't ruined..

Thanks

Can you still hear the tweeter how you like? If you can, why bother. If you can't find the same size tweeter and resistance (multimeter works good for testing) and buy one off partsexpress, replace both.

The only time you would really need to worry is if it's a paper or metal tweeter. If its a soft dome the outside is basically just a cloth-like elastic substance and its fairly hard to cause any damage to the tweeter itself.

Short of poking a hole, even deformities (which are a visual annoyance) should have negligible effect on performance.

It should be fine.....I've accidently caved in some tweeters before and fixed 'em with a vacuum cleaner (the suction pulls the dent out.)

i wouldn't worry about it.

Gross and strange as it may sound, place your mouth over the poked tweeter and suck the dome back out. Or, if that doesn't fix it, the HiVi stuff is available at Madisound and Partsexpress pretty cheaply.
