Just curious if anyone else has this problem. I have AVG spy boy, Ad aware and nothing seems to fix this. But this slows down my computer to an almost halt. What type of virus or spyware is this? More importantly what is the cure.

Info on your system, including software loaded at startup, would help.

SVCHOST doesn't need to be infected with anything, it sometimes gets greedy with no malware present. For example, you may notice that it gets very busy during a Windows Update. Some people have found that disabling Automatic Updates also cut activity from SVCHOST when it shouldn't have been doing anything, but beware that if you turn off AU, then you'll have to go download vulnerability fixes manually.
 
Well not sure what other info I can give at the moment. My DVD drive is slowed downed considerably that I can not even watch a movie. I think it might be even just something is using my resources. SVChost does not always max it out but my computer is running very slowly, any advice would be great!

Windows Xp SP2 I did the run ya its SVCHost eating a lot up for no reason. Is there something I can post so you guys can judge my system programs or something.
 
using Process Explorer, do you have the option to expand svchost.exe to see which process is hogging CPU? or does it just say 100% right next to svchost.exe?

Device Manager(windows key+Pause break\Hardware tab) \ Ide atapi controllers \ Right click the ide channels and see if they are in pio mode instead of dma mode under advanced settings\current transfer mode. If it is uninstall the primary or secondary ide channel whichever one has the device in pio mode then reboot.

There is a way to reset the pio mode from the registry but I couldn't find my link on first glance. If you need the link let me know.
