Suspend mode?

I've never used suspend mode. I always just shut my computer off when I'm not using it. I probably use it for an average of 3 hours a day. The other night I accidently put it in suspend mode from the shut down screen, and didn't realize that I did this. In the morning, I went to turn the computer on, and It was right in windows in like 2 seconds. I realize that this is normal and what suspend mode is for.

Here's my question. Is it unwise to leave it on suspend all the time? Obviestly I would shut it down sometimes. The reason I'm intrigued by suspend mode is that my computer was virtually silent when it was in suspend mode. I totally thought it was off. My experience with other computers is that the power supply still runs, and it's still pretty loud. What kind of power does the computer consume in suspend mode?

I realize that this question is rather amature.
 
Um, most people on here will tell you to just leave your PC on at all times. I leave my running 24/7 (which actually makes my CPU run at lower temps). Why are you turning it off?
 
I turn the computer off because I don't need to waste power. I'm a student who's got bills to pay. It doesn't make sence for me to leave it on 24/7 when I use it for 3 hours a day. I might leave it on if someone can sell me on the suspend mode.
