ok guys, I have been trying to figure out a way to setup my satellites to get the best surround sound possible but i dont want to have stands and wires all over the ground, i was thinking and though "what if i had poles extending out of the wall that had the speaker at the end so it goes over my head and then the speaker is behind me?!" anyone seen anything like this? it would be a little bit flexible so that it could arch over your head and be even with you ears, you could easily run the wire inside or just ziptied to the poles all the way back! i think it would be awesome and awesome looking as well but i dont know what to use for the poles or mounting, anyone ever seen anything like it? i need some help in the fabrication of it all, thanks

ever seen the bose display at best buy/cc. same thing. i woudl rather run int along the cailing with poles then have it aim down, not at ear level. i dont wannt to get up and knock it over. You can always Mod your chair..lol little copper piping, with one protected conduit going into teh bas and a speaker mounted on each side. i'm not crazy, i just think outside the circle..umm box... or was that trapaziod.

hahaha great stuff, I need a 1337 chair mod!!!

yeah this whole having my surrounds to the side is kinda stupid :(

I have created.... thhe CHAIR-REO

Or you could hang the rear speakers from the ceiling ... and run the wires up that way ... just my $.02

Connecting stuff like speakers which are placed on non-stationary objects with wires to stationary objects is simply asking for problems (raise you hand if you've at least once been nearly choked to death by the wire of a headphone). Either go wireless, or use stands/wall-mounts/etc. like everybody else :)

well what about wearing head phones..lol. Who here hasnt gotten up, or slid the chair back further than the cord reaches to get a quick surprise? i guess you could get some battery operated wireless speakers. the shack probably has a crappy pair. Ultimately I would run them to the ceialing, but i thought this was a funny pic. Chair-Eo...hahah

i like the idea of best buy bose system ARMs reaching out from infront of you to behind you and holding the speakers out there... maybe just some cheap silver painted pvc pipe :)

some of the copper of light steel piping for plumbing would work better. pvc would probably bend too much, and over time keep bennding.

You know those desklamps that have an arm that will bend and flex? Why couldn't you put your speakers on something like that with wingnuts that you could tighten when you got them in the perfect spot. Then you could just retract the speakers to ceiling level when you needed to.

I made a picture but I don't have anywhere to put it.

That's really funny you mention the desklamps. I'd love to have them going over me and behind but that just sounds way complicated and expensive. The cheapest speaker stands I've found are $40. I came home and turned on my el-cheap-O indirect lamp and knew what I had to do next!

Bought two lamps for about $13 each. Gutted them - had to cut nothing - nothing broken. Went to Fry's and picked up some Logitech 5.1s - (tired of waiting on DD soundcard - don't have SoundStorm). I moved my old ACS DD speakers to my DVD player and TV. Anyway, I'm rambling... Here's the pic. Whatcha think?

i have the same thing in my livingroom. I have the lamp actually assembled though. One on each side of the TV in the corner of the room for my front channels. i just dripped 2 holes about half way up the lamp. 1 for the wire to feed out of, annd the other to put a bolt through it to hold my satellite speakers. Actually mounted the rear channels, but since i need light in my living roon, this set-up woorks well. Nice to see other "Ghetto Rigging" minds at work. :D

Edit: PS. elation, after looking at your set-up, i realized you can run your wires up through the place where the lamp power cord was, so you dont have the tape at the base.

I have that same case. Treats you well I trust?

I had another idea over the weekend. Pulleys. Two pulleys per speaker so that they don't spin all over. Then you could just pull them up and out of the way. You could add a few more pulleys to direct the other ends of the strings somewhere out of the way. I am so going to try that. I love the lamp idea though. On a side note, I also considered milk crates and PVC pipe speaker holders. If you stack crates you also get some simple shelving as well. PVC would just be cool. Just make a tripod sort of thing.

I get carried away really easy, but it would be cool if you were to hook some type of hydraulic system or springs to the cords so that the speakers would be let down gently at the touch of a button.
