hi, was wondering if anyone knew how to get my 7.1 surround sound to work in counter strike, i have a sound blaster x-fi platinum, and its set on game mode, but im only getting left right action thru the front speakers, the rest is just general sound, not specified for that channel
 
You have 7.1 selected in the X-Fi game control panel and you can do a channel test from the game mode control panel correct?

Have you set the audio options to EAX surround in CS?
 
yea 7.1 is set in the x-fi panel, and all the channels work properly, but ther is no option for surround in cs, it just gives me the option to use eax hardware support and a3d hardware support
 
I have cheaper sound setup (X530 5.1 speakers with Audigy4 card), but perhaps I can help with the 'general sound from the other speakers' problem in games.

I had similar problem with games sounds from the rear sounding weak and muffled with poor positional sense. Try this:
- Open the Surround Mixer utility.
- Reduce sound volume settings for the three front speakers.

That works for me - increases presence for the rear speakers, eliminates the vague muffled rear sound events and improves positional sense.
