So to start this out, I have never used surround or eyefinity before, and I'm interested in trying it maybe. my first question is can I use it on different displays. I bought a nice 24" 1920x1200 benQ a while back and then I upgraded to twin ASUS 23.6" displays which are each 1920x1080. I recently decided to get one of the korean IPS displays and was going to have that surrounded by the ASUS, but it ended up being DOA so I figured I would make use of my new 3 monitor stand in the mean time. Big question is can I do a 3 display system on monitors that have different native resolutions?

Second question to that would be, how new of a GPU do I need for each of the architectures?

I have had 2x 3850's on my old machine in crossfire driving my asus displays before but I never thought about doing eyefinity then. Then I got 2x 9800 Gx2's in SLI from a friend when I was doing my new build but I can't seem to find a way to make them work in nvidia surround. Finally I have a XFX 5770 that I recently got and that has what looks to be the right outputs but if its not going to work I would rather not muddy my new system with ATI drivers (as I am trying to stick Nvidia). Finally I'm working on getting a second hand GTX580 now that they are starting to come down in price due to the 680 release but as I understand it I would need 2 in SLI in order to do surround, right? If so, what are the actual benefits of Surround or eyefinity (as I haven't really found a good explanation on what they do yet).

My Current system specs:
AsRock Z68 Gen 3 Professional
i7-2600k @ 4.4Ghz w/ Antec Kuhler 620
2x EVGA 9800GX2s SLI
16 GB G.Skill Sniper 2133 Ram
Thermaltake Toughpower XT TPX-775M 775W

Edit: Forgot to add - the games I play are primarily SWTOR, WoW, SC2, and the Command and Conquer series, if that helps decide if its worth it to me at all.

Also for ATI Eyefinity was not supported until the 5000 series anything before that will not be able to do it.
